I watched the interview this morning and although I've never been a fan, it is quite a sad moment for the sport. His results were obviously on a downhill spiral, so I guess it was inevitable. His contribution to motorcycle racing has been massive, and no doubt will continue to be so. Good luck to him in the future... it will be a shock to his system, that's for sure.

I've always been uncomfortable with someone who is comfortable with their own fans booing the opposition. I would imagine that the vast majority of the other goats would be very uncomfortable with it. No need for anything like that in a sport where death can come at any time. I don't like mind games either... its a form of bullying.
Terrific rider though.....

He definitely had a cult following, particularly in Asia and obviously Italy
I couldn't really warm to him myself, that said I think I would have liked him to get his 10th title
Did he race for too long, in my opinion yes, however you got to give it to him for trying
I think particularly this year he realised that the younger brigade had come on in more leaps and bounds than he could
However if you look at his lap times he was beating his times from last year, it was just that the others were obliterating his and by staying in the competition he was denying a young rider a chance to show what they could do, think Morbidelli
I doubt I could ever forgive or forget the incident with Marquez in Malaysia, and i found it strange Dorna would not allow Honda to release the brake data to prove that Rossi stamped on the brake pedal, I was there and it happened in front of us, there was just no need, that was the turning point for his 10th title penalised on the grid in Valencia, then he started blaming Lorenzo for winning the race
To others he could do no wrong, that's fine, everyone has to admit he did a lot for the sport and will do more if his race team can win races
Sad to see, however a good things must come to an end eventually

Well, i guess it was inevitable, maybe he should have done it sooner? I think it is very sad to see someone who was always at the front 'just making up the numbers'.
Whether you like him or not he is a massive talent and a has been a huge benefit to the sport. For me motorsport in general really needs characters like him and i think he will be very sadly missed.

Can’t take away anything from his riding or achievements. I remember him as a breath of fresh air coming into 125’s really liked the kid but as his popularity grew it became almost a cult of personality. When it started to be about him and his supporters against the rest of the paddock I drifted away. What happened with Marquez shocked me. Yes he hasn’t got slower everybody’s got quicker. He did a huge amount for racing sadly not all positive. However you can’t take away his wins.

Personally I couldn't stand him, but, like Michael Schumacher he grew on me as he got a bit older and wiser. He's getting out at the right time, unlike MS who should have quit years before he did. Kinda sorry to see him go, and no one can argue with his achievements.

A god, couldn't do a thing wrong for me, the sport needed him which is why he got away with anything he got up to, its a sad day but he has had his day, I'd say if he felt like like a bimble every sunday in a gp he has earned the right but he is keeping some young talent off a fast bike and that isn't right. We all know its not a good day when you have to admit your shit and past it, he has plenty to keep himself occupied and its not the last we'll see of him.

Is Rossi's middle name Marmite by any chance?

If anyone thinks a world champion or even a professional competitor is a nice guy they are deluded, some are worse than others but they don't turn up to come second.

I keep telling my mate he is too old for motor cross but as he says what would he do if he stops he’s done it all his life he would have to start watching telly instead of working on his 7 bikes
