The answer from Powerhouse : Nouveau message de : powerhouse-uk Top Rated Seller(80,254PurpleShooting Star) Hi, If you have ordered several kits including the original Yamaha manufactures part and they have all been 3.5mm this should tell you something The 4mm measurement you have is incorrect, so it is either the groove that you are measuring or an old swollen seal. We rebuild a lot of these calipers and none of them have a 4mm seal, I would continue to use the original Yamaha parts that you have already purchased. Best regards Paul

To be honest when it is fitted 2 things will happen
Firstly the seal will be squeezed as the piston is installed so distorts and grows wider into the gap
Secondly the sealing surface is the outer and inner faces, not the sides onto the grooves
I'd be fitting it and trying the brakes
