Hello
I have been offered a RD80LC import from Germany and it is naked, and I was wondering if they all had a cowling or some did not? If the latter is the case I cannot see one for sale anywhere so I assume they are hard to get hold of and no one copy them?
Many Thanks Paul

Just spotted that Norbo sells them for 80LC and 125LC, which is good, are they the same thing then?

I will update myself, should have looked before posting. Norbo's site splits the 2 bikes, so the RD80 stuff is lower and there is no cowling. Oh well, so my original question still stands did all Rd80LC's have a cowling?
Cheers Paul

Which one have you been offered, Mk1 fairing is very rare, but German 80LC2 are the same as 'our' 125LC's. Also some MK1's didn't have the fairing either but can't remember which country these were from, sometimes called RZ80 rd350lc.net/STORY80Europe.htm

Same as an RD125LC fairing, should make finding one a bit easier, depends if you want a genuine one?

If the bike never had one, I prefer to leave it as is, but its not clear to me if that's original or not as all the brochure type pictures show them with a fairing. Is there any reference to a 1983 (Black) RD80 from Germany being sold un- faired? Or do you think it has been removed?

I'm not too clued up on the models, but looking at the pics in your link, it does have a belly pan fitted, so I'd be guessing it should have a fairing too. All the pics without a fairing are all 'naked' bikes. As seen here... rd350lc.net/STORY125jp.htmyou need to do a bit more digging for where it was available in various countries. But all the 80LC2's I've seen were German spec. Plus the bars and indicators look to have been changed, possibly crashed???

does your bike have the mountings for the belly pan und the engine? My MK1 is "naked", because the rear mounts for the belly pan were broken off the frame partial. I didn't want to weld at the frame tubes, I thought about some clamps, but the bike rides fine without the snowplough. Years later the screen of my fairing developed a crack, so this part went into storage. All this stuff is becoming so brittle. When I remove the sidecovers, I always hold my breath. Norbos fairings are made of GFK, I don't know if I would pass german MOT with this part on the bike.
Regards
Brigitte

Hello Brigitte et al
I have a number of pictures of the bike, but have not worked out yet how to load them up, i will look tonight. It looks like the ones in the rd350lc.net link posted , its a 80cc though. On that page i see plenty that have the belly pan, but no fairing, but not the 80cc version which I understand in Germany is the 125 frame. I think i need to see it to ascertain for certain if it ever had a fairing. The previous other link showing a black, belly pan but no fairing is an example of what it looks like, not the actual bike.
If it never had a fairing then that's all good, if it should have one then that will most likely be very hard to find original, but i see Norbo sells aftermarket fairings and brackets, and there is someone selling them on eBay, made to order for £100.
The bike is north of £2000, so I have to be careful what I spend on it, it already needs new decals on the tank, the side panels are wrong decals and will need paint, the seat needs recovering and there are small other issues to put right. Its been bored to 99cc (i have no idea if that's an issue for reliability) and I now need to check the kw/bhp power as my daughter being 17 can only go up to 11kw I understand. I have no reference points price wise so its going to be a personal decision, but it does seem resonable. I would prefer an RD125LC even though they are a lot more money (as I used to own one) but the KW/BHP is higher than what she can ride from my understanding of the restrictions, which is a real shame.

Hello Pahannah,
at the age of 17, I would not have been worried about wrong decals. More "yippie, I got a bike". Check safety and reliabilty and the cosmetic stuff can be done when she says "oh, its so boring slow" and its time for a bigger bike.
