Hi everyone, I posted a few days ago about one of my carbs that just keeps flooding, today I fitted new float valve kits from Norbo, re set the float heights put it back together and tested it on the bench and it still floods, did the other carb that was good anyway and it's still fine, I have now had it apart and back together 6 or 7 times, I have tried different float heights different valves, nothing has changed still flooding, I then noticed that the good carb has a brass ball in the hole that I have circled in the pic and the bad one does not have the ball, is this the prob or does anyone have any other thoughts

would I be correct in saying the one with the brass ball missing is the RHS carb (non choke side) ? if so that is correct, only the choke side carb has that small brass ball fitted
Its most likely that the O ring is not sealing on the carb body due to wear and the fuel is leaking past the actual float valve body on the outside of it, so no amount of fiddling will fix that.
Easy way to check is to put a piece of fuel pipe on the inlet tube, then hold the float valve shut, then blow down the fuel pipe, if air gets past then its that which is leaking, put some water mixed with fairy liquid around it, you should see bubbles forming where its leaking

Yes it is the right hand carb that has the ball missing so that's OK then. The valve body did come out very easily so could be worn, I have blown down the inlet and the valve did feel like it was sealing when I lift the float up but will try again with the soapy water. When I does flood it not a trickle it come out full bore as if there's no valve in there at all. If it does turn out to be worn where the valve fits is there a fix or is it scrap?

I assume you have the float height set correctly ? 21mm +/- 1mm

also, the new needle valves can sometimes "c**kle" out of position and don't seal, that's not unusual, but seems odd you get it consistently

It is also very easy to nip an o ring while fitting the seat

I had the same problem with my 31K. The only thing that fixed it for me after disassembling the carbs god knows how many times was to buy genuine Mikuni float valves from Allen Performance. The other top tip was to tilt the carbs over as per the manual when setting the float height. I used a piece of wood cut to 45 degrees to hold the carbs at an angle.

I did re set the float heights after fitting the new valves, they had changed a lot with new valves.

Think iv sorted it, just had both carbs apart again and on comparing the two floats the bad side one actual metal part, not just the tang for the valve but the main metal frame of it is a bit bent and twisted where as the good one is pretty straight, so I put the good float in the bad carb and tried it on the bench and wot do you know, it didn't flood. So now gonna get two new floats and should be all good. Where's the best place to get new floats, I think norbo does them?

you should be able to straighten the floats out if your careful, use some thin nose pliers and be patient, don't force them
