Looking at the conversation around the addition of increasing amounts of ethanol in petrol and its varying degrees of absence in the super unleaded brands; a straw poll:
What do put in your LC - Regular or Super?

Isnt there a Poll option so you can add that to this thread?

Super for me also. Running wise I haven’t noticed much difference with the 2 strokes but big difference with my old laverda. Most important bit I think is to drain everything down when storing as the ethanol/water/unknown additives destroy the inside of carbs, fuel lines and tanks.

Super, its just better. I love Germany they have 102 Octane Super, you can feel the difference with that stuff in the tank.

E10 avoid it I am happy with e5 but only esso shell bp. If you Google it, there are some petrol stations that sell super with no ethanol in but not all. Think BP is ethanol free.

I learned recently that there's no Ethanol in any fuels on the Isle of Man. Apparently Hygroscopic fluids and small Islands surrounded by a lot of water isn't a good idea

I put super in all my classics but not in the MT10 - thats gets regular, but from Shell or BP, not supermarket stuff.

Funny you mention supermarket stuff
On 2 separate builds I've used new Tourmax carb repair kits that I have used many times but used Tesco unleaded (it's local and for first start I went with a fuel can)
Both times if left standing for a few days the needle valves stuck shut
Fill it with Shell and it doesn't do it 🤔

The proof of the pudding is, take a glass put half an inch petrol in it and watch. Most of the time there is enough moisture in the air to change the liquid appearance. It forms a hazy misty milkish discolour. The ethanol attracts the water and forms a dispersion of water in petrol. Later this settles out leaving water on the bottom.

Sorry forgot to mention i am in Holland. 102octane is very rare these days. Only a very few stations deliver that. One distributor with less then 20 stations in Holland

Leave it standing for months at a time? aspenfuel.co.uk/I have it my multi tool (strimmer, chainsaw) and rotovator, they fire up with a couple of pulls after sitting for ages....unlike when they are filled with pump fuel and stood for a while.... that used to be a sweating, swear word fest of proportions that would offend my "butt"! (a word from Gods country meaning friend, not an arse.)

In Canada I always try to put Shell 91 in the bike (which is supposedly equivalent to 95 in the UK due to the different equation for calculating the octane) as they claim it has no ethanol.
The thing that pisses me off though is that there is always some amount of gas in the line from the previous customer which is more than likely 87 octane.

Everything under the sun available in Florida up to Sunoco 110 at several stations in town. Non ethanol regular and super pretty easy to find as well.
87 non ethanol in the bikes and small engines for me.Just to make jetting easier as the ethanol content is inconsistent.
Never had a moisture issue with ethanol gas in either my boat or trucks and I live right on the coast with a brackish canal in my back yard and Florida defines humidity. It may have to do with whatever additives the companies put in blends for our area.

Super duper + in all bikes. I did try the BP stuff in my truck once. Filled her to the brim and was shocked at the price difference but the old girl pulled like a train compared to regular petrol.

Super for me too Regular with ethanol may have been the reason why my ypvs tank rusted out so I only use super in the bikes

I only ever use BP Ultimate 98, it goes in everything from the chainsaw and blower, the bikes and also the cars.

I’d forgotten - I was chatting to the postie a few weeks back he said the petrol station next to the local airfield sells some sort of super high octane fuel for the light aircraft that use the field. If you take a can along they’ll sell it you for not a huge amount more then super unleaded costs. According to Wikipedia he was talking about Avgas: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avgas?wprov=sfti1Anyone tried it?

Yes. Used 50/50 avgas/four star, back in the olden days to help control detonation. Dont know if it's blue and full of lead anymore.

I put super in all my classics but not in the MT10 - thats gets regular, but from Shell or BP, not supermarket stuff. Sainsburys petrol is bp petrol. Comes from the same tank at the refinery and same vessel for the additive. Morrisons is Texaco fuel.
