As I mentioned in another thread I've just rebuilt my LC2 and was torn between painting the cylinders Gloss or Satin black. In the end so glad I went with the Simoniz Gloss Black Engine Enamel. I've also got NOS LC2 cylinders and the finish isn't as good as I I've managed to achieve with the Gloss Simoniz. Just hope it holds up well, only done 50 miles so far so fingers crossed!🤞 Here's a couple of pic's...... what do you reckon guys?👍😁

I always prefer satin, it doesn't show up imperfections as much. Tidy job though

Looks great. As long as you are happy with it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks I found it totally petrol safe - unbelievably so, but it can chip quite easily in my experience, so be extra careful when working around the engine Dusty

As Dusty says, your bike, do what you like. For what it's worth i had a head and barrels cerakoted satin black and i am over the moon with the finish, it's meant to be tough and petrol proof too!

Also I don't know how long you leave it before touching it up but the paint reacted on spraying another coat on days later
Used the BBQ on my Triumph Bonneville cam cover and still looking great about 4 years on
The BBQ paint is on my Athena head and barrels too

Here's one of my nos LC2 cylinders. Definitely more glossy than satin. I'd say it's more of a semi- gloss but definitely got a shine to it. Must admit I'm a fan of both, but now I've gone gloss I won't be going back, ha,ha,ha! 😁

They have a similar thing on Kawasakis, they call it 90% Gloss

Get a bit of two stroke oil and dirt on there and they will look the same. But then I'm not really a rivet counter. That stuff does my head in. Kudos to those out there though

I can tell you my experience on the cylinders of a 2UA: I painted both the cylinders and the engine cards, including the central ones, first with high-temperature paint, Macota brand, in black. I used the high temperature paint because this does not need an insulating base, it sticks to any surface, including aluminum. The paint is opaque and so to make it shiny, I covered it with 2K clearcoat, PPG brand, the one used for cars. Obviously, the matte paint becomes shiny, it holds up well to the temperature of the engine and to the fall of hydrocarbons, oil, gasoline, etc., and of gasoline with those damned carburetors a lot of it has fallen on the engine !! Almost three years have passed and everything is still new. Important and good thing is that the Macota high temperature paint, which is not 2K, does not react when coated with the 2k clearcoat. While some other paint gave me problems, like that of the Max Meyer. Another great paint is Caldart 713, matte finish and 2k, so it doesn't need to be cleared to protect. If you catalyze it, instead of 15%, at 20% it becomes a little more shiny. I used it to make the circles of the 4l0- The real problem is for the mufflers, it is not easy to find a high temperature, opaque and even 2k paint !!
