im wanting to use my dial gauge on my rd400e, to set timing.
i cant get the gauge in for the fins and frame. tried cutting a spark plug down, removing head and screwing adapter in, but again head wont sit right.
the dial gauge should fit yams, but not mine, normally i would have removed the stator and mark it,but this time i didnt. (mistake on my part )
I have a timing gun but wanted it something near before starting bike up, that would lead to another question.
when the bike is running, do u have to rev the bike to a certain revs before checking that the marks line up ?
thanks for any ideas, must be possible to put a dial gauge in even if the engine is fitted. or should have bought an expensive yam dial gauge with proper adapters ?

Take the tank off, it should go in fine then,, unless you simply don’t have the correct adaptor.
the thread on the end is normally same as a bicycle spoke...I have a few cut to different lengths.

I ended up cutting a bicycle spoke out of an old bike to make a probe for the gauge to time a Gt 185 . It came in handy for a lot more .

Ive made one. I used a spark plug and machined the swaged part off and removed the porcelain section. I drilled the side to accept a m3 screw. Never let me down.

I remeber I had to stick the dial indicator loosely into the adaptor, then place it above the spark plug hole. Then screw the adaptor into the spark plug thread and finally fasten the dial indicator.
btw I hated to take the fuel tank off. This connection hose and fuel everywhere.

Tore on the AC site sell couplings with viton seals that actually work and don't leak.
