Hi Mates, i own a rd125lc Mk1 10w 1984. Seem to have a white stain on the engine oil glass after going for a ride. Could it be water from the coolant or any other problem. Im a newbie and would like to know more about this. Hope someone could help. How to avoid this and cleaning. Tq in advance.

Check the oil
If it's grey and frothy the water pump seal has gone
If it's fine it may just be condensation from moisture which is fine

If it's good just change it
But...
I've had 4 strokes with this and there was a metal plate behind the glass so you couldn't clean the glass so I had to change the window rather than pull the case off to clean it

Thank you very much Steve. Drained the oil, seems to be fine. Not grey or frothy. New oil change and see what happens. Cheers.

If it is just condensation then a good long ride to get the engine hot may cure the sight glass issue.

Tq beardy. Goin for a ride tomorrow, will update. Cheers. And one more thing, why does the internal engine parts get rusted, i mean the clutch basket and bearings. Can see some rust accumulating inside, can be seen from the engine oil top up hole.

Normally they shouldn’t. Clutch baskets are usually alloy so don’t rust but the drive gear it’s attached to can. It sounds like either your engine has not been run in a long time and condensation has caused rust or you do have a water pump oil seal leak and infrequent use of the engine. I’d be checking coolant level too.

Thank you mate. How do i get rid of the rust inside the engine? Tried searching the net but no good ideas. Im afraid, flushing with engine flush would damage the bearings and other plastic parts or seals. Hope to get help and ideas from you guys. Thanks in advance.

Beardy, checked the coolant level and its fine, still full. Not reducing. As for the water pump, got to check it. The bike had been idle for some time coz i seldom use it. Been keepin it inside the house.😄

Never used engine flush so can’t comment. Surprised you have rust if the bike bike has been kept inside your house. Your water pump is probably fine if the level isn’t dropping. Some pictures of the rust inside the engine might help others give advice on the best course of action.

When I was a kid my CB900 looked like it was full of suds (the oil and water mix used as a cutting coolant on the school lathes) during use in the continual downpours in winter. The dipstick used to be covered in the stuff and the breather tube from the engine was always full of the stuff. Bit alarming when you see it 1st time... The CB900 is aircooled so no coolant there!

Hello,
there is some rust, not nice. I would rely on regular oil changes and watch out for silver in the drained oil. And abnormal noises.
Buying all the bearings and sprockets would blow my budget.

you said in your other post that bike had just been restored. Has it been sitting around for a while? Condensation got in causing surface rust and emulsion in oil? If it were me I'd run it around for a while getting it nice and hot and see if it sorts itself out.

HI Ajh, Thanks. Yes the bike was recently restored. Looks like some kind of condensation. Cant figure it out. Whats the best thing to get it cleared. Have changed my engine oil twice. What could be the cause of this effect. Hope to get some ideas to sort it out.

I would say ride it and get it hot but 2 oil changes... was the oil contaminated on the 2nd change? It is common to get some condensation in crankcase in winter but it should disappear after running at normal temperature for a while
Checked your coolant for any contamination? Could be a leaking water pump seal. Im not familiar with 125lc but are there any other seals between coolant and crankcase

The second oil change was fine and no trace of any substance / mixture. The coolant level is not decreasing, checked through the spare tank and opened the radiator cap. Its just that, im using the red type coolant and did not mix any water. Could it be the problem. I mean, the coolant is directly from the bottle wothout mixture of water. The seals look good on the outside. But a friens of mine told me, if the coolant is entering the engine oil, there would be a rise in the temperature. So far the temp does not hit the red bar but somewhere near to 3/4. Its half way the center when it gets hot n running.

If you are using neat coolant your temperature will rise too high as the SG of the coolant is too high, it should be mixed 50/50 with distilled water for the best protection. Your oil has condensation in it, make sure the breather is clear and clean, take the bike for some longer rides and the condensation will evaporate off.

Where are you? Is it cold? AF comes in all colours, is it premixed stuff? If the second oil change was fine and assuming all sounds normal, I would ride it around for a while on normal temperature (not short little journeys)
