Crankcases were plain metal finish. Vapour blast brings them up lovely, Outside cases satin black. My preference is a good paint like Simoniz satin although other brands are available

Petrol can ruin powdercoat.

As stated, my personal pref is paint. Not a big powdercoat fan on engine parts

Petrol can ruin powdercoat. Really didn't know that, I always thought it was pretty tough but it's worth knowing

Powdercoat is tough, but will be affected by fuel spills, so not ideal on engine parts as John says. A decent engine paint will resist petrol though, and has the added bonus of being a lot cheaper as you can apply it yourself. You just need to decide on whether you want satin or gloss. Cerakote is another popular choice now - a ceramic paint finish, tough, fuel resistant and very heat resistant, but it isn't cheap like a rattle can would be. Dusty

Dusty Thanks Dusty I've got a few cans of Hycote kicking around so will have a go with that.

I asked Redditch Shotblasters and they said their powder coat is fuel resistant. Handy for me, as I work in Redditch :-)
