No idea where they are made now. Not worrying about tyres yet as need to get the forks built up, get the yokes and swing arm powdered and buy a rear shock to mock it up, check the chain run and check the frame is straight before it goes for powder coat Good news is the wheels arrived 😀 Steve

Hi what front hub have you used please Hi Front hub is Yamaha sr500/xs650 Fazer 600 discs go straight on but it's a whole world of pain to get blue spot caliper to fit between the discs and spokes. Did it on my 31k retro hybrid in the rebuilds section Steve

Thanks Steve ill keep a eye out as i no suzuki Gt380 550 etc work to, i just need to try find a TDR250 rear hub Yes they will but maybe need bespoke brake discs I have used a gt750 hub on my TR build with Yam forks, caliper adapters and Girling period calipers. Blue spots won't fit due to the 6.5mm thick discs As for the TDR rear hub I do have one but unsure if it is spare yet. I have a planned ypvs build with spoked wheels and have TDR and aircooled rd hubs The draw back of the TDR hub is that it uses a 15mm spindle and due to bearing size they can't be changed to a bigger ID so you need to use reducers to fit the swing arm. The A/C hub is 17mm but can be changed to 20mm with bearings and a new centre spacer Unfortunaly both will knock you back up to £200 Steve

Pulled my finger out my ass and finally got all the fork parts together Vapour blasted lowers and new stanchions from All Bike Engineering made 30mm shorter to keep the length the same as the LC (taking account of the wheel/tyre size change) Got new genuine bushes and seals which were eye watering Just need to get the spring spacers shortened now to compensate for the shorter stanchions and me fitting preload adjusters which are longer than the standard fork tops Steve

I'm picking the yokes up from the coaters tomorrow. Just been out and built up the forks. The preload adjusters I had didn't fit so ordered another set which fit perfectly Need to trial fit them to check lock stops Steve

RWU forks just look right on an lc, using shortened fzr400 41mm forks on mine & trying to use as much yamaha parts as possible to keep it looking factoryish

Plan for today was to trial fit the forks/yokes onto the bike to check the lock stops Pressed the bearing onto the bottom yoke then found the bottom of the frame headstock hits the yoke so a spacer is needed under the bearing Very steep learning curve as I switched the lathe on and set about making a 3mm spacer Drilled a 17mm hole in the centre then opened up to 30mm with a boring bar before cutting 3mm off That sounds easy but took over an hour 🤣 Was still quicker than either buying a 5mm one then having to wait for post or getting one made Steve

Fitted the tank and looked at clearance between top yoke and tank Clears both sides but not even on both sides, a little too close for comfort on right lock so ill need to weld then dress back the LH side of the frame tab Also looked at the ignition steering lock alignment. Mounting pillars need trimming back about 12mm. I've got some milling bits on order so I can cut them down, fit the ignition switch and check the steering lock matches up with the lock stop travel Steve

Baptism of fire with the lathe turned out fine in the end. No pun intended. Still 3 phase or have you swapped the motor out? Looking good Steve and I hope your buddy is following progress here and noting the effort and attention to detail. Top work as usual 😉 John

I'll probably take the motor to a place a mate recommended to me for refurb Runs fine but I have to be gentle with it although it will still catch and rip the workpiece out the chuck. Maybe not helped by the cheapo tools I bought 😆 Steve

Got an hour or so in the shed today
Fitted the rear wheel into the arm and adjusted the chain pulls to fully forward to push the spindle against the end of the slots to make sure it was straight.
Marked the centre of the rim then clamped my laser chain alignment tool into the shock mount which should be perfectly central and centred the wheel
Then measured up the sizes needed for the 3 spacers. I'll have a bash at those on the lathe when I get the chance
Then I'll have to work out the rear caliper bracket locating slide. Reckon I'll need to get an alloy adaptor made then welded to the arm
Need to roughly check the chain alignment too. I got the rim laced on 5mm toward the sprocket to help the chain not go through the frame 🤔

When making the spacers you should still be able to use the centre for parting off (does it rotate ? If not use grease)ideally always machine close to the chuck or it will end in tears😪

If not use grease)ideally always machine close to the chuck or it will end in tears😪 That's the mistake I made last time. Cutting too far from the chuck and I tried to drill the centre hole first with too big a drill and it went off centre so couldn't use the centre Had to even up the centre hole and open it up with a boring bar with too long a work piece The lathe came with no tailstock tools so bought a chuck and a couple of live centres For theses I'll cut a shorter piece, drill a 6mm or so hole in it working up to 20mm, use a live centre and cut the bar OD to 36mm and 26mm as required and part off Steve

Buy some centre drills they make life easier for starting bigger drills and for the centre to go in,always face off the material first so it doesn’t send the drill off when starting

Then decided to do some alignment checks First was centre of shock mount to rim which was central Second was chain alignment Line clamped central onto the sprocket and laser pointing forward to the pivot. I'll be using an offset front sprocket so the chain clears the tyre so the challenge is to not hit the frame. That looked fine too 🤞
