Bought a wreck of a '85 125lc (for parts) that supposedly had been pulled out of a creek fully expecting to be full of water. Missing a bunch of things and wiring hacked. Much to my amazement the piston actually moves an inch and I believe there's no water in the crankcase. Sort of a long-term project as I'm working on another 125lc at the moment with a soviet 350 waiting, but ... maybe someone can give a few pointers or throw a link my way as to get spark with minimum wiring - it does have the cdi on it as well as the coil and also the stator-rotor both seem to be untouched as far as I can see. Don't see myself hunting on ebay to get a wiring harness, then an ignition lock, then a run/off switch... I am sure the list goes on. Thanks in advance!

Is it a MK1?
The CDI is connected with:
black - ground
orange - ignition coil (single wire)
white-red - pickup
red, green and brown connect with the same colours at the engine
black/whithe ist the kill switch, not needed for your purpose.
The ignition coil must be connected with ground too.
Have spark?

Hi! No, a 2nd gen with ypvs (that surely is not working as is). Thanks for the input - i'm on a mission to gather info as I will tackle this in the future.

You wont need an ignition switch as it kills the circuit when plugged in. Leaving it off gives a spark.
If you have a YPVS model, those CDis are usually faulty with intermittent/bad running. Start off with a Ignitech CDi and run a cheap kill switch directly to that. You can also run a digital rev counter from the Ignitech, so can lose the mechanical cable.
