So while I'm waiting for my re bore and vapour blasting to be done I have been sorting through all the other bits and bobs cleaning and checking and today I turned my attention to the auto lube oil tank, I washed it out inside and its now in the dishwasher but it did notice that the low oil sender is quite loose when inserted into the oil tank and someone in the past had tried to stick it in place with some sort of black silicon type stuff. Is this common, is there a fix other than sticky gunk or do I have to replace it at about £45 I think.

I think that you’ll find the issue is the rubber neck of the sender itself has shrunk, the bottle won’t have changed unless someone has fiddled with it.

Buy a bit of heat shrink tube over the ribbed sealing bit and shrink it down
Job done 😁

Speaking of YVPS low oil lights. I converted my 84 RZ350 to a Koso RX2 GP instrument cluster and the only thing we couldn't get to work is the oil light. We used the factory connectors from a spare set of clocks and wired it up and the light is either steady on or off, it won't light up and the go off in 3-4 seconds as the factory one did. What did we miss? Is there a resistor or something in line in the factory instrument for the sensor? Any knowledge will be much appreciated.

Think the 2 wire sender has a capacitor in it
The bulb discharges it slowly and fades out
If the new light is led it won't draw enough power

I used a small piece of push bike inner tube. Fitted perfectly and leak free for years.

Thanks! That makes perfect sense.

I used a piece of 20mm heat shrink tube, had to stretch it a bit to get it over the ribbed rubber seal, then shrunk it down and it works perfectly, as good as new.
