You need a multi meter

I think the correct course of action is to refer to the wiring diagram and probe with a multi-meter, whilst swearing at it repeatedly. The searing doesn't help you find the fault but it does make you feel better about it.

Check the earth/ground connection to the bulb.

Measure the voltage both on one side of the fuse and other side.. I had voltage drop in the fuse holder on mine. It took me a couple of hours to diagnose since I had already checked the fuse..

I had something similar ^^^^^. I pulled all the wires away from each other in the fuse box and sorted it. Must have been some sort of a short.

found the 2nd fuse in from the right, head light circuit is blowing the fuse. straight away. so must have a short some where.
unplugged switches, still blows the fuse if i leave the fuse out, everything works again except the head light.
thought i found it wit a badly jointed red wire, twisted together. soldered it together, still blows the fuse
wondering if i have a broken wire, going upto the plugs next to the coil, for switches to plug into

Hmmm , power going to earth . You will now need to check the wiring for breaks / insulation worn through . Do lots of swearing as has already been mentioned . I hate electrics .

just take your time and work through the connections, pull them apart and clean them while refering to the wiring diagram.
If that is not it, check the inside of the switch.
You will find the issue I am sure, take your time and relax into it. swearing is optional, it helps but will never fix the issue.
