I have an OE fuel tap that doesnt leak externally but does not seemto turn off so fuel slowly still drips into the carbs. It doesnt look like it is serviceable other than the o rings that seal the external tap and bowl. Seems to be a plastic 'barrel' behind the tap that controls the flow but cant see a way to get it out of the tap to have a look.
Anyone got any ideas how to fix or do I have to replace?
Ive also got another tap that does work ok but is too stiff to turn whilst riding the bike. Same thing, I cant get the plastic inners out to see whats causing the stiffness. Any ideas?

Hello,
I think small debris from the fuel tank like little rust particles causes little scratches in the plastic barrel. I have had this happen with a fairly new OEM fuel tap. And I know no fix for this. I pull off the fuel hose and block the fuel tap for storage.

If you tip tap so as the turning knob is upside down (take out screw 1st) turn it back and forth while slowly pulling it out of the tap, the white plastic bit should come out with the knob, as said they can get scratched with debris, I took mine out cleaned it and rubbed around with grey scotch pad, smear some red rubber grease and put back together, worked on mine, also clean the mating surface with fine wire wool.

Take note of how it comes out, it only works 1 way, if you put it back in upside down it won't work right (the little white plastic bit I mean) also the little spring can loose its tensioning, that is all that pushes it in and the pushing in makes it seal.

I'm like a stuck record but this little plastic part is unavailable unless you buy another fuel tap !
The rebuild kit doesn't contain it FFS

Cheers, spring tensions good, well it really pings out when I release it 🙂 Hopefully I can clean the plastic bit up like we discussed as I heard they’re not available 😉

Yes!! as headcoats said, its not available on its own, if cleaning and a smear of red grease doesn't work, then nothing will.
