Am I right in saying it’s a good match to OEM for YPVS heads and cylinders?
Or is it too shiney?

YPVS head is definitely gloss but I'm just not too sure whether the cylinders were originally gloss or satin finish!
On my low miles original RZ the cylinders are definitely not gloss, much more of a satin finish.
Having said that, when I look at the OEM finish on my LC2 cylinders by flipping them over and looking at the paint on the reed valve intakes it definitely looks more gloss.
Perhaps with time and heat the original gloss finish does degrade more to a satin/ Matt look!
I have this dilemma myself as I'm just not sure whether to paint my LC2 cylinders gloss or satin. 🤔
Simoniz also do a satin black VHT paint, although it doesn't say it's an engine enamel made specifically for use on engines! It's Simoniz Tough Black Satin.
Decisions, decisions!😀

Yes exactly.
I have a YPVS engine that’s not been messed with and the cylinders are a cross between gloss and satin.

1ua cylinders were satin
I've had a NOS 31k cylinder and it was gloss same as the head
Not like the glass finish of Hycote/Simoniz but deffo not satin
The high gloss does tone down a bit with use/weathering
31k bikes also had gloss clutch case where 1ua was satin again
The paint does deteriate on the cylinders

So I finally dug out one of my NOS 31K cylinders off the top of my wardrobe, surrounded by Shoei boxes so not an easy job!,🙄 So looking at the original Yamaha black finish it's definitely a glossy black, but not a really high gloss. I want to say semi gloss but I think it's a bit shinier than that! Here are a couple of pictures, what do you guys reckon?🤔 So now I'm thinking I'm gonna paint my LC2 cylinders with the the Simoniz Gloss Enamel and give it a blast with the heat gun to speed up the drying and hopefully dull down the gloss just a touch!😀

Tends to knock the gloss off and give that slight texturwd finish Steve

Yeah, I was also thinking about doing that as an option also Steve, I remember you mentioning it before!
Yes, a final light mist coat from a distance will definitely give it a less glossy, slightly satin finish.👍

Looking good Steve.....but it does look a touch extra glossy to me......but I am a picky old bugger me!😩🤣🤣🤣
But I think I'm preferring that look to my original idea of painting mine satin.
Hopefully I'll get them painted soon then I can compare the finish to my NOS cylinders!👍
