Should be getting my freshly re bored and blasted barrels and blasted head and clutch cover back later this week so started to think about what paint I will need for the head and clutch cover, any recommendations for black engine paint please and does it need any further prep or under coat or can you just paint the bare casings?

There's a few options in this Thread Exhaust - Engine Paint Most go straight on without primer.

As above, Simoniz engine enamel in black gloss for top end and side casings. Very shiney, especially if you bake in oven. Upper crankcase needs to be satin black. I used some PJ1 I had kicking about, came up well. If Simoniz do a satin engine black I would have tried that if I didn't have anything on my shelf. No primers were used. Crank cases were vapour cleaned and top end had been previously media blasted, just needed a good clean as been kicking around for a while.

Thought the standard Yamaha finish was semi-gloss ( satin black) on the cylinders and gloss black on the head? I am talking YPVS, not sure about the LC.
Simoniz do a satin black vht paint, I'm gonna use it on my LC2 cylinders.

Where have you seen Simoniz satin, I can't find it, not sure to use gloss or satin, I know pv top casing should be black but I'm going bare, just painting head and clutch side black.
