So I need a new lid. What do people have / recommend? Leaning towards a Simpson Venom...

I have an HJC RPHA 70. It's comfortable, not very noisy, has good venting and I can get my glasses inside easily. For me it was the right helmet, but for you, who knows. I would recommend going and trying on a bunch of different makes to see what fits you and if it's the style you like. If you can get in a shop of course.

Wear a Simpson Venom on my Lc and an arai rx on my Ducati. It’s not just the lid you need armoured jeans for the Lc. 👍

One that fits. Thing with lids is...It becomes very apparent that you've bought the wrong one the first time you get on a national limit road. I will not be parted from my Arai. I have 2 one from 92 and one from 06, both brilliant, quiet, comfortable. Dont think there are any around of dubious quality anymore unless you look for the fake ones. Its a shame there is no test ride offered with a helmet purchase...

I switched to a flip up helmet a few years ago and wouldn't wear any else now, just so convenient. My current one is a Bell SRT.

I recently bought a Ruroc Atlas 2.0 Ghost 👻 (in my profile picture) and I love it! It’s really comfortable and I often suffer from crushed ears with some brands (like Bell). However, I haven’t done any long journeys yet so can’t really comment on wind noise yet.
I also have a Simpson Venon (aka Ghost Bandit), Shark and Caberg flip front for nipping to the shops.
I would buy a new Arai if I had £600 to spare. 🤑

The guys with the Simpson Venoms, did you get a lot of wind noise from the vents on the top of the helmet? Even at 30mph? I had loads of wind noise from one side, sent the helmet back to Simpson and they said theres nothing wrong with it and it must be the shape of my head Blocked it up with foam and it stopped noise completely

Shoei X-Spirit 3, can't fault it, other than the price!

As to mo said how much do you value your head, the best advice is get one you can afford and not to compamise safety, hence why I paid over £800 for my shoei best lid I've ever owned light as a feather no noise and I value my heed 👍

Andy.

I had an original X-Spirit and it's the best helmet I've owned. Really stable at speed. The only thing that I didn't like was it was very cold to wear in winter.
My next helmet was a NXR but I didn't like it compared to the X-Spirit.

all depends how much you value your head I looked up the ratings a few yrs back for a lid for my son.... price was not always linked to protection. Remember it upsetting a major player.... sharp.dft.gov.uk/sharp-testing/

all depends how much you value your head I was told many years ago, if you have a £5 head then buy a £5 helmet, obviously prices have moved on since then.

Had a agv but found the last one I tried wasn’t as comfortable so bought a Aria chaser this time.

Another Simpson venom owner here, very light and comfortable, replaced an AGV, peripheral vision on the Simpson is so much better, there is wind noise, but having purchased some custom fitted ear plugs at the NEC a couple of years ago, I don't find it excessive. Helmet does indeed look the part on the LC. I asked opinions on here when I was looking for a new lid, I'm glad I followed the recommendations given.
