While replacing a stud on my r/h cylinder I discovered a difference between the exhaust pipes. The r/h flange that mates to the cylinder is shallower than the l/h side. It looks like I have the 1980 cylinders but different pipes, which have been powder coated.
The problem I have is deciding which pipe is correct for this bike. In the meantime it also looks like I really need to use different exhaust gaskets for each side.
I would show a photograph but I cannot see how this is done in this message, plenty other options but none to embed a photo

They all have the same 4l0 part numbers, even the 250
It was the paint dash colour and having a 0 stamped on the rear of the hanger bracket that identified them

If your bike is 1980, with none tie-bars, and doesn't have a '1' on the cylinder then the original pipes were the thin flange ones. The part numbers didn't change although the design did and they dabbed paint and/or stamped a '0' on the hangers. see.. www.rd350lc.net/pageEXHAUST.htm

Seems 14711 and 14721 indicate the sides.....my issue is just the flange at the top....one is much deeper than the other...
The only difference I can see between the pipes is the flange on one is recessed 5mm and other 8mm all other dimensions are the same

As per the link the early bikes with no tie bars had issues with pipe headers cracking so pipes were changed Steve

Thanks for photographs...both my pipes have the thicker flange, BUT one has a deeper cutout / recess ...that’s the only difference I can see. To me it looks like different gaskets are needed for each pipe... When the pipes were bolted to the cylinder, the one with the deepest recess was almost flush with the cylinder. The other has a gap a 3mm or so.

You should have a wire ring inside the exhaust flange, often gets lost/broken. Coat hanger wire or twin/earth cable is often used as a replacement
