Looking for some wisdom please from those that have registered their bike as historic taxation class
Bike was first registered 23rd June 1980, so assumed it was 40 years old and applied to have the taxation class changed to historic
Dvla have sent the V5 back, no note or anything but taxation class unchanged
Is it not eligible until 5he 24th June 21 to change?
Thanks Nick

It has to be over 40 years old. You could wait until the end of June or just MOT and tax it as normal this year and apply for it next year.

The DVLA round up the date to the end of the year the vehicle first took to the road and it only takes effect from April each year so if my understanding is correct, you should be able to do it from April this year.

You can apply to stop paying for vehicle tax from 1 April 2021 if your vehicle was built before 1 January 1981. In practice it can work out closer to 41 years old depending on build date. With your bike you will have to wait another month till this April 2021.

My Honda CB900F is 40 years old on 31st March so I'm assuming it will be MOT exempt but will it be tax exempt from 1st April this year or do I have to wait until April 2022 for that?🤔

Couldn't get the MOT exemption on any of mine until they were declared historic on the V5 for tax so you may not get either till 2022 unless something has changed since last year.

From what I've just read online it looks like it will be MOT exempt the day it's 40 years old.😀
But looks like it won't be Tax exempt until the following April.😩
Or........am I reading that wrong?
Very confused.com 🙄

That's what I thought
You will have to send v5 off and request change to historic after 1st April

That's not what the .gov site says 🤔
It's usually them that notify dvla of change to disabled

It doesn't HAVE to be done at the post office. Just fill in the V5 with change of taxation class to historic and include the completed V112 form for the MOT exemption declaration and post it off yourself. That's how I've done all mine no problems. The post office has a large post paid bag that they sling all the V5's in and don't ship it out till the end of the week anyway so it will get there quicker sending yourself than leaving it with them.
