Hi folks
Coming from the 80's bike era when 2 stroke was the way and 2 star petrol and and squirt of 2 stroke oil in the tank was the norm my manufacturer of choice was Yamaha. Here's a list of what i can remember owning (not in date order)
1984 Brand New RD80LC from Norman & Birches in Stoke On Trent (6 weeks later got T boned and wrote off)
RD125LC
RD200
RD400 in Cafe Racer style with Stevens Tune
RD250LC later converted to 350
RD350LC Stevens tune - snapped conrod and destroyed cases within 4 hrs rebuilt, repainted and kept for several years. Sold this and the RD400 for about ยฃ700 the pair in the late 80's after getting married.
Couple of other RD350LC
Finally purchased a 350LC with a YPVS engine and decided to fit RGV rear swing arm and a set of Dymags. Then off it went to Derek Huxley for a set of exhausts (which never got fitted and have been under the stairs for the last 20+ years) they weigh nothing. After getting it back decided to fit RGV upside down forks so went to purchase a set from a chap Liverpool way who then offered me the RGV rolling chassis for an extra ยฃ50. On the way home the build plan changed and the new idea was to fit the ypvs engine in the RGV chassis.
The LC rolling chassis with dymags and rgv swing arm was sold to a chap that was running the LC Owners Club meeting at Donnington (not sure if he frequents this Forum) and and engine cradle was welded up to fit the YPVS to the RGV and back of to Mr Huxley to get the exhausts modified. Got a call from him as the engine was too far forward and the front wheel would hit the exhausts on full compression even though it was only a mm or 2 away from the frame. The only way to go back was to cut a weld the frame which he was happy to do but i needed time to think about it so took it home without changes to the exhaust or frame.
While pondering what to do with it all in 1998 i was offered 1 month old GSXR750SRAD at a price that was to good to be true but it actually true and i purchased that and still have it. At this point and after 4 or 5 years on and off of trying to build a special LC i finally gave up and sold the RGV rolling chassis also. Still miss that 2 stroke smell
