The front mudguard of my 82 250lc is cracked from the side to the centre line about 35mm back from the leading edge. I could get my Dremel out and shorten the mudguard by 40mm. Maybe I’m daft but I’d rather not do that if I can achieve a solid long lasting repair on the crack. Irrespective of the repair, the mudguard will be repainted.
I don’t know what type of plastic Yamaha used but I suspect it’s polypropylene or something similar and things won’t stick easily to it. There are certainly no EU codes to identify it but it would be good to know for sure.
I don’t know what the best way to repair it is. Your experience and advice (even if it’s to tell me to buy a new one) would be very welcome.
I’m not sure if it’s an appropriate product but has anyone used Plastex 3000? It’s marketed specifically at polypropylene/polyolefin repairs.
Many thanks

It will be ABS so can be plastic welded easily
Q bond is good for a non flexible repair. Grind a V into each side of the crack, sprinkle some powder on then drop the liquid on top.
Repeat till it's filled the V both sides. Sand and a bit of filler
Wurth replast is very good and flexible but you ideally need the dispensing gun for it which isn't ideal for a one off repair

Thanks Jon. Very comprehensive. Good to know I can fix it and make a job of it with the tools I have. I’ll get at it when I can get into the shed without snowshoes and an ice axe. Rolie
