I want to get my 31k LC2 engine rebuild rebuild right so a few questions please: 1. Is the clutch side crank seal item 13 shown the correct way round in the above drawing? I thought the castellated bumps were located against bearing item 9 ie the other way around. 2. How do I identify the orientation for fitting seal on rotor side item 11. I have bought gen Yam seals. 3. The crank doesn't show the 2 big central bearings, presumably as they wasn't available as a spare part, as only lists the crank sub-assemblies. Is there a part number for these, or any other way of identifying bearing before I get crank split as I would like to buy the bearings in advance. All help appreciated, thanks, Shaun.

Hi Shaun 1 - no, the seal is wrong in that pic. Castellations face into the bearing, always. 2.Smaller crank seal isn't so obvious. I always fit it with the wording facing outwards; 20200403_204647 by dusty miller, on Flickr Never had any issues fitting them that way. 3.Have a look on PJME 's website. I'm sure they list all the component parts for a crank on there; www.pjme.co.uk/Dusty

Potentially expensive schoolboy error Mr Yam and Mr Haynes made in their docs. Glad I checked. Thanks.

Potentially expensive schoolboy error Mr Yam and Mr Haynes made in their docs. Glad I checked. Thanks. That's really annoying. There is a similar error in the Kawasaki Triples factory manual that has cost many an hour. Great advice on here as always.

I had a niggling doubt in my mind about it. I regularly use the parts diagrams for guidance during my builds, I even use them to determine if shafts or bolts go in from left or right hand sides, to try maintain originality, even in the many cases where it doesn't really matter. Bit anal I know but I usually find the parts lists useful. I will tread carefully now on. Every day is a school day, even during lockdown when most are closed. Lol.

There is an easy way to figure out which way to fit crank seals
1. Look on the lips of the seals, at least one lip will have a brown/reddish ring all the way round, this is a type of teflon coating - this ALWAYS faces the inside of the engine - e.g. towards the crank bearing. 2. If both seal lips have brown/reddish ring all the way round, then it doesn't matter which way round they go, but I always tend to fit them so the writing is facing outwards 3. If your crank seals don't have any brown/reddish ring then bin them and buy genuine !

Who are you getting to rebuild your crank Shaun? I'm looking for someone local to do mine.
