Hi All
I have a leak from the bottom of the clutch case, used a genuine gasket, which has improved things. But the bottom middle bolt, does not tighten fully, the thread is partially stripped. So it looks like a helicoil job.
Not done this before, so its possible to do this with the engine in situ and can anyone recommend a quality helicoil kit.
The reason the clutch cover has been off is that I have done a 370 conversion from a 250, so have an uprated 2T pump from arrow, so needed to change the drive.
Thanks in advance.

Yep, can be done with the engine in situ. I use the "Recoil" kits. Drill the hole out and tap it, (drill and tap supplied), then wind in a stainless steel insert, just under flush, and job done. Did 2 on an Lc engine in the past. Use a bit of tape on the drill bit so you dont drill too deep and punch through the back of the casting. Hardest bit is making sure you drill in square, if you know what I mean Dusty

Engine in situ, I use recoil kits, that will come with the correct size drill and tap all you have to do is drill it straight and not f**k the tapping up, don't go to deep as you'll be in the gearbox.
Weirdly, the stock 250 I built last year is the only LC I have ever managed to get a leak from the clutch case, that bike started as a basket case and had a slightly dodgy sized washer on the oil pump drive gear which meant the cover couldn't seat properly, the tighter I fastened it the more it leaked, ab*****d to find but easy to fix when I had. You shouldn't have to tighten the tits off on it, I'd say something is wrong.

Just make sure the bolt hole is clear before you start, as there may be the remains of the old bolt or other debris at the bottom. Also make sure the bolts are the correct length.

Or use the better but a lot more expensive Time Serts
If you have to use a coil though use ReCoil, a Recoil will fit a Heli coil but not the other way round, handy if you don't know what coil was installed in the first place and the coil has come adrift

I took a left case of a lc years back and two of the bolts had about two treads bolts to short
