Just got the bike together and I can smell fuel in the garage, had a look and there's a drip from one of the lower studs, any pointers? Thinking maybe fuel tap passing?

Yes, carbs... dripping on to the top of the engine then running down through the drain hole and dripping off the studs.

I've rebuilt the carbs with new float plungers etc but got to be getting in somehow, when I get a chance this afternoon, I'll check fuel tap initially, perhaps a combination of both....

Check the bottom edge of the reed valve gaskets
If it's been overflowing fuel into the cases it can weep through the gaskets

You should be able to leave the fuel tap on, all the time if the float valves are working properly. To maintain the correct fuel height in the carbs the valves must seal efficiently.

Quite common, Ive got 3 old yams and all 3 have had drips from the carbs when left standing for weeks. Even though I run them dry. It demonstrated the needle valves werent sealing but also all 3 fuel taps also leaked over time to fill the float bowls. I fixed the taps and didnt bother with the carbs yet

Just had a look and the tap is ok, no fuel coming out, both the carbs seem to be leaking from the float bowl gaskets, strange since there new as well.....
Can't remember where I got the kit from now, had them a while

The float gaskets compress
Best to tighten the screws then leave 24 hours as you will find you can tighten the screws more

Thinking about it, I used new Allen bolt screws and normal washers, do they need a spring washer as well?

Originals have spring washers but won't cause your problem
I'd just have nipped them up 😁

I always fit the YPVS needle valve repair kits as the tip is rubber coated, rather than metal.
If you need some of my gaskets, can send you some straight out in the post today. Mine are a perfect fit for LC/YPVS carbs.
Cheers
