Hi folks
Well, this project has been a marathon. An oddysey. I took the decision to undertake the restoration of the decaying pile of bits at the back of the garage over 5 years ago now! Had to put it on the back burner several times owing to various obstacles, and other life events taking precedence.
Anyway, all done now. Passed its MOT in the middle of November (grateful to the guy for not failing it after he pointed out that it has a euro-spec headlight lens!), now has 270-odd miles on the clock.
150 of those were careful running in up and down the A4 between Reading and Maidenhead, not straying too far from home. When I finally felt confident enough to give it full beans... honestly, I was so happy I was literally laughing out loud inside my lid! Real magic
Have since been on a longer run from Reading over to South East London to pick up a friend, then down to Tunbridge Wells and over to Balcombe to have a look at a fine example of a mid-19th century viaduct (for those interested in that sort of thing).
Couple of minor issues. One of the gear lever ball joints popped out whilst I was riding. Fortunately I had some cable ties in my pocket and was able to cobble it together and get home. Sorry to have to report that it is a Yambits item Now replaced.
The back brake pedal height adjuster bolt went missing altogether.
Metallic rattle since tracked down to the bearing cover on the rear wheel becoming detached from the spacer that is pressed into it, now fixed.
Screaming noise coming from the rev counter - the subject of a separate thread. Partially fixed / working on it.
Other than that the bike as a whole rides pretty well and seems pleasingly solid. It does have some moderate running and starting issues - will get into that on a different thread.
I'd really like to say a huge thank you to everybody on this forum who has offered their help, advice and encouragement. I am (quite obviously!) a part-timer at this sort of thing, and I wouldn't have been able to get this motorbike back up and running without you - no question.
Shout to Norbo, in particular, for somehow managing to get me a chainguard at short notice in the middle of what sounded like a tricky situation with the house move and all. Only realised at the 11th hour that one was required for the MOT
Look forward to coming along to some meets / ride outs next year
Cheers - David
N.B. - realise that these aren't the best photo's. I somehow mostly always forget to take them! Will try and get a few better ones next time I'm out and about.
