You need a VIN. No V5 is possible with a dating certificate, but bike needs a VIN as a starting point.

Thanks everyone ZiG What frame is it? It must have a VIN or has it been erased? You can get an MOT on a frame VIN as well as insurance, all without a registration number.

If it's a custom frame with no vin you need a donor frame/v5

basically if i have a frame i can identify as a rd250lc / rd350lc BUT because the vin has been removed because of years of powder coating how do i go about building a bike around it
to register for the road ??
i'm sure someone has came across this before ....maybe ?

If it had a genuine VIN then it can usually be found on the RH side of the headstock. Remove the powder paint with dremel and gentle sand disc. If still not visible, then follow thos process... www.evidencemagazine.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=366If after all that, you don't find the original VIN, it is a ringer and has had serious efforts to disguise/remove the VIN. At this point, cut up the frame and sell the various brackets to offset your losses and buy a new legal frame. Will be much cheaper, less hassle and more legal that way.

Thanks for that.... i do know for certain it was from a genuine bike and has changed powder coating colours black twice blue once and white once....it has been stripped at the headstock and there is nothing left to recover from the VIN but yes i will look for a uk frame with log book , less hassle in the end ZiG
