It is with slight trepidation that I start this thread. There's some seriously skilled bike builders on here, and if it turns out half as good as them I'll be pleased. I've been inspired by the builds on here, got disillusioned by RD's and went elsewhere bike wise for a few years. But finishing and riding my French blue LC2 has got me back into them. I've pulled an old school hybrid I've had in the shed for years to get back on the road, that hopefully will be a short term project and be back on the road for next Spring. But many years ago I started collecting bits for what I thought was the ultimate expression of a twin cylinder YPVS powered bike. If I said the forum names of the guys that inspired me the elders would know straight away where we're heading... So here's some photos to get started, from the stores as it were. EngineTotally striped, vapour blasted, new bearings throughout, new crank and rebore at Grampian, barrels tuned by Ron Fahron for fast road type use, fancy clutch basket, it'll get a lightened flywheel when I find it, stainless fasteners. HeadDomes cut to suit the above tune again by Ron. Swing armPlan is to dry build it rough, run around on it to make sure it does what it supposed to, then strip and prettify it.

Is it going to be a tuned ypvs powered swingarm based skateboard?

I had one - Tzr125r Belgarda with a 350 pv engine fitted - the "Ugly Betty" bike. There is a thread in the resto section somewhere ! Dusty

I remember sit up and beg style. The subframe and lugs for mine came from Glyn years ago. Saw Peddro's in build and Vins photo's from the shed and thought, that looks like a good idea. Peddro's carbon work was the icing on the cake.

It makes for a great hybrid. There are a few bits that can be a bit testing - exhaust routing being one due to the shock linkage, and the side stand mount, but bespoke pipes made to fit will be fine. The French seem fond of them - quite a few of the pics linked in my thread were from a French bike site. Mine had a hell of a lot of engineering in it to get everything to fit. Even the weird, tucked under pipe had been made bespoke by someone. Frame is more or less 3ma, so it's gonna be strong !! Look forward to the build Dusty

3XV swingarm :-)

That swingarm was also used on the 125's - the later models. Mine was an early one. I researched the mods needed in depth at the time, and although "Betty" was, at first glance, an ugly build, the more you looked the more you saw the clever and "proper" engineering that had gone into making the engine fit. Ideally the Pv engine needs to sit further back than the frame would allow, hence the need to scallop the frame for the rear engine mount bolt to fit. Some of the modded bikes I found online hadn't done that, and the engine sat too far forward imo. The suspension knuckle sits very low and causes an issue for an ideal exhaust run - dont forget these were single cylinder bikes and not twins. A lot of guys went for Gp exit style pipes as it was easier to bend the stinger of the left pipe around the knuckle and out to the right. Likewise, the side stand mount was right where you wanted to route the left pipe if you wanted it on the left side of the bike, which is what I would have wanted if I had kept it. Plastic tank by Acerbis, so no rust to worry about. You'll need to run a remote choke as you wont be able to reach the carbs as the frame spar is in the way - might still have mine somewhere. Chain run needed a large spacer behind the rear sprocket to line it up properly - you can see it in the pics. The standard rear seat set up is bulky. If I had kept it I would have gone with a decent race style seat, but each to their own. I sold it to a forum member who will make a very nice special out of it, the potential in these is huge Dusty

I'm torn between building it looking like a standard 4DL with standard running gear with twin pipes running up the right like standard, street sleeper style. Or using that 3XV swing arm that's massive and a different front end, ending up with TZ250 4DP bodywork day time MOT street racer style.

The Tz option is what I would go for I found all my pics after digging through literally thousands that I have just transferred onto my new Pc. If you need any close ups (without the "Photomuthaf**kers" logo blazed across them), let me know Mine had some clever mounting points for things like CDI,Pv servo and battery etc. Dusty
