WTAF Why would you spend so much on an engine? And to make it worse fit it with the rest of the bike in that state In fact how the feck do you spend £7.6k on a standard engine I've done one for £1500 Steve

OMG!!! According to Padgetts “the best RD400 engine in Britain”. ".... using genuine Yamaha parts over 12 months at cost of £7649.03."
To use an old Scottish phrase "YER MAW!!" lol.

The other thing is this
While they were pulling his pants down with that engine build did they use new cases and destroy the value more 😬

Ah, so that's how the Pro's do it! Sorry Dusty, you've obviously been getting it all wrong for years mate. 😉🤣
Mind you, a good motor can be built without actually looking the part, I guess. Aesthetics are important however, especially at that price.

Beautiful, and priced correctly. Exhausts are worth a grand alone... and if its got 2r9 carbs...and correct downpipes...well its a f**king bargain!

I think he made a mistake and the 7 grand is actually the cost of the custom paint job!

Ok he is dreaming on the start price, but it is a Uk bike 8000 miles if genuine just forget the cosmetics look at what it is. Yes they’ve taken the piss on the rebuild but how many genuine 8000 mile Uk 400’s are still about? If this was a Uk 4l0 in similar condition with same history and provenance what would someone pay?

Seriously I’d be interested in what people think it’s worth? I wouldn’t be surprised if it made £5k plus. I’m not saying it’s worth it just what they seem to go for.

If I wanted it...£3k.. and thats too much. Couple of yrs back was buying a 4l0 intact and much better than above 400 for £3.5k. It was all original and a swiss import if memory serves me right. But the buyer thought he could get more by registering it first (Already agreed to sell to me after registering it "for me". Bought uk clocks and headlamp ready to use then saw the bike up for sale on fleabay...obviously in attempt to get more cash...didn't sell...then phone call to say..'hi, bikes ready for you!!' Well you can guess my reply )

Steve I genuinely don’t disagree I bought my last 4l0 in 2015 for £2200 it was a 20k mile import completely standard I thought then Christ it was expensive, I bought several in the noughties for between £1k and £1500, but since then the market has gone mad. I look at what people sell for now and I’m completely out of touch. £20k for Rg500’s madness. However I’m sure someone will pay good money for it maybe not £7500 plus but it won’t be cheap. How much would it sell for as a is but without a rebuilt motor? £3k plus? Then add in the motor etc ?

It's had a right hard 8000 miles
Considering the paint and condition of the chrome it wasn't cherished
And why with 8k miles would it need 7k spent on the engine?
It's 3500 to me I'm afraid. I'm wincing at the expense of the chrome 😖

Oh and I know of a nice slightly non std 4l0 in Europe for £3k so they are still out there if you know where to look.

There is no way that has enough new, genuine parts in it to cost that ! I 'm pretty sure you would struggle to spend that on a 400 engine. Even if you did all the cosmetics and added some trick ignition and carbs, fancy cylinder head etc etc, you wouldn't get to 7.6k.
