Two weekends ago i was one of the merry helpers for the Rotterdam Dirt Ride. It's supposed to be an event for old scramblers and crosser's. when i was a teenager i used to have some Ashman boots so i thought i would look to see if i still have them. Unfortunately i think they are no more, but i did find these gloves. I knew i still had these but i was gob smacked to find them in such good condition and still supple. I love the studs so i'm looking forward to the next SM party.

Had a pair of those in blue. They burn like hell those studs, when you're on your arse sliding down Craner curves... Have a pair of Ray boots somewhere...

When i was 17 i fell off my bike and damaged my ankle. At the time i was wearing green welly's. The first thing i bought after that was a pair of Ashmans because they seemed so big and heavy and protective. Since the Ashmans i have only used Daytona whilst driving on the road. This year i have also been doing short trips in leather boots, it's the fault of the Hipster's i know. I have been thinking about what crash helmets were around at the time of these gloves. Names like Lazer and Bieffe come to mind.

I'm sure I start at on a Kangol (or was it Centurion 🤔) helmet then bought a Laser.
Back then I didn't have the money for proper kit
Second hand jacket and gloves, jeans and baseball boots 😬
After I came back from the test runs on my latest build I did question my sanity about going out in jeans and trainers. Not the gear you want to be wearing for a seizure 😞

It’s what we all did I started riding in the road in my dads mates kangol fibreglass kid that was too big for me but thought it was better than my dads kiwi plastic lids. I had a serious rtc at 17 compound tibia and fibula 1 1/2 short since I was wearing that lid a denim jacket leather gloves jeans and winkle pickers 😁

When I was 17 and had my kh250 there was a local bike shop run by Shane Hearty. He sold these “not for road use” crash helmets which looked well cool and were cheap. After buying one and out on my kh it fouled a plug. Off with crash helmet, seat up and tank off. I stepped back from the bike and my heel caught the chin of the helmet which was on the grass verge and it snapped off. That was a lesson learnt. Bought my first Bell after that.

Oh jeez, forgot about Kiwi 😀
The carefree days when you wouldn't think twice about wearing sunglasses with a helmet
Strangely never could ride without a helmet. Mates used to do it off road but I never liked it. I'm the same with driving without a seatbelt
Watched one of the hosp A&E probs the other night and a guy came off his bike. They said his helmet came off before he hit the ground
Now either that wasn't fastened or was mega too big 🙄

My first helmet was a Nolan N19 in red, just like this one... I bought it 2nd hand from a bike shop. No one would do that now lol It was in Holland and to use on my TS50ER (with 65cc kit). The rest of my gear? Skiing gloves and jacket, jeans and trainers... what could go wrong? Hmm... this is why i ache when i wake up now I guess....

Haggis (or as the plural is haggea are fast little feckers ) they are hard to capture even harder to shoot, but like me they run in circles now had it been my right leg I’d have run in the opposite direction. 👍

Hard to shoot? Well, that depends on how good a shot one is! They can be very low and fast and do test ones reactions more than ones marksmanship! Trouble is... it's so bloody pricey for a day on't moors..... they are much better sport walked up over pointers rather than being driven by the local teuchters!!
