Just finished this. Thanks to lots of guys off the forum, and others. Off for an MOT tomorrow hopefully... I've had it years, came to me in five boxes many years ago. Never got around to it until the start of this year. I think I'd fallen out of love with the power valves or needed a change. So a few Montesta's, GPZ1100s, and XT Teneres later and I'm back in the room. Apologise for the photo, it was getting dark and she does have the correct belly pan. I haven't fitted whilst in shakedown.

Looks like you done a great job. Any pics of the actual build? Would be good to see a build thread if you have.

thanks fella, appreciated. I'll try and find some photos. I tend to do a number of bikes at once. So the vapour, powder, paint etc all gets done together for a few bikes. Just makes better use of time.

Thanks Dusty. I've owned a black and red, and a white and red but I think the French blue suits them best. You never know how they'll come out until they're finally together but I think the black wheels and grab rail just give it a touch of modernity. It looks better with the belly pan and frame infill. I'll try and get a photo tomorrow with it all together.

Build: Anything that could be powder coated has been, frame, swing arm, wheels, yokes, grab rail, suspension parts, brackets etc in satin black, or gloss for the frame, and swing arm in silver. Anything alloy that could be vapour blasted has been, cases, barrels, head, carbs, fork legs, hangers etc. Thanks to John at Menai Powder coating. I prefer to wet paint engine parts, so this and the bodywork were done by the well known duo of Steve and Jamie at J+S Race paint. Their attention to detail really finishes a resto. All the consumables are new, tyres, grips, chain and sprocket, bulbs, brake pads, master cylinder seals, cables and HEL brake hoses. Brand new oil pump from Yamaha. Stainless brake pad pins are fitted, and there's quite a bit of Phil Dentons stainless stuff on the bike. I rewired it with modern corrugated type conduits, removing all the wrapped old stuff, and using the superseal waterproof type connectors, and Motorbatt gel type battery. The crank and rebore were done at Grampian and I rebuilt the motor with genuine Yamaha seals and gaskets. New billet power valves are fitted. No Zeel or Dyna....yet. The pipes are Micron with shortened detachable end cans by the guy up in Yorkshire, I think they're called 2Moto. Front suspension is standard but with Hagon springs, the rear has a yet to be fitted YSS shock. The drop link washers and nuts need replating as does the front axle. I might be happy then....

You didn't have to refurb or replace much then.😁

Its just great to see another one of these unique machines back on the road where they should be! As many will know, I don't ride anymore, but I still have the same interest as I always had. Keep them alive.

Thanks for the comments. It was a proper basket case. Had a day off today and took her for the MOT test. All the lads in the workshop came to have a look, great feeling. Took a slightly longer than necessary route on the way back.

Ringding.., just one thing. In your list of things you did in the resto. you did not mention the oil pump. Please don't think I am suggesting for one minute that you have to send it to me. I rarely ask for jobs, if ever at all.
All I'm saying is just make sure you are 100% happy with its operation.

Some stuff isn't worth skimping on. When I finish a resto I always like a second viewpoint and normally drop it in with a mate to give it the once over. It's easy to overlook stuff when you've been focused on it for months. AND It always amuses me when you go and see a bike to buy that's had a 'full rebuild' and see that they've put twenty year old tyres back on it, my engineers brain starts thinking what other corners have been cut

Getting out and putting the miles on this when the weather permits. And sorting the last few niggly things. Seat lock location before: Seat lock location after farm boy straightening And proves it's always better to investigate the simple solutions first. Thanks to Yogi

Couldn't help myself. BDK racing shortened dog bones should give slightly increased height. Ordered titanium lock nuts as well.
