Hello All
Figured it was time to start a new thread for my TFI Build. Why TFI i hear you ask....
Well it is for 2 reasons....
Firstly it's the 'Thanks For (the) Inspiration' build. This is because of all the wonderful builds on here that have made me determined to get mine done and done properly. No more overlooking details that make a special 'special'. My previous build thread lost its way somewhat, mainly down to seizures (bike, not me) and detonation problems.
Again this was mostly due to me being in a rush and having a 'that will do' attitude to get the thing on the road.As i say, this time will be different and is going to get done properly and methodically. I am not saying this will be a no expense spared build because unfortunately the boss has other idea's and we are not made of money. So there will be things i would like to buy, or have made etc that wont be done to start with as things will need to be prioritized. One of these being a metmachex swingarm. I would love to have one and plan to do so but I will have to sell my SRAD to fund this and as it is my only ride it will need to wait
until this build is finished.
The 2nd reason is when i do finally get this thing built , it will be moved to the finished builds section and title doubled up to be'Thank F@ck (its) Finished ' build. .
Please bear with me on this, i have a lot of pics to go through so will post this in a few sections.....
Anyhow I am going to start this thread a little differently than normal and post some garage pics up because my garage was rammed with stuff and i couldn't move / do anything in there because i am a hopeless hoarder of tat!!! We hired a skip the other week and got rid of loads but still not enough but i have finally made a little room and a couple of benches to boot. Not sure if i have mentioned being a tight arse before? but i am also quite handy at re cycling so here are some pictures of the work benches i have made.
1st one is made from a dining table which we replaced earlier in the year, An old circular wooden garden table and some re cycled worktop. The section on the right with the vice is solid with 4 x 2 filling the void between dining table and wooden top which is made from an old potting table. The section on the left with old worktop has been left empty underneath for bonus storage space.

Note wooden stool to rest my weary legs.

I then decided i need a welding bench. I am not a welder BTW but i can make 2 pieces of metal stick together but i do enjoy it and is something i have practiced for a few years and would like to get back into it and hopefully improve. Anyway this was joined on to the workbench and was made with more of the wooden circular garden bench for the legs, and old swing seat for the frame of the top and some free off cut metal from work. i was given 3 sheets 5mm thick 1500 by 500. All 3 are just layed on top at the moment. I intend welding one on, then using one of the other sheets to make a 'shield' kind of thing so i can weld in winter without having to empty bikes etc outside.

Garage still has plenty of junk in to keep me happy, but i do have some space to work in.

All in all the 2 benches cost me nothing. I know they are not the best but they are solid and will certainly be good enough for what i need.
Anyhow. That is enough of the garage.
So now the starting point of my build....this is not the original starting point more the 'where i got to point' with my slap together so i can ride point

They were taken not long after the garage was put up . Long before i filled it with tat.
I recently got the bug again after not going near lc for a few years and sized up KR1 wheels which i posted on my Heath Robinson Mock up thread. I wont bore you with all of them but here is one with them in

I since decided i was going to keep standard wheels but have now had a change of heart. I currently have fz600 forks and yokes fitted which need no work done to fit. I also have an XJ600 front wheel and discs which bolts in and is in the same style as early PV wheels so i am now planning on getting a PV rear and this will be fitted into the LC swingarm. I toyed with the idea of fitting PV swingarm and converting to full floater suspension but after messaging Dusty decided against this idea partly due to the extra weight but mostly because i would have to lose the airbox and run filters which is not something i wish to do at this point.
The bike has been stripped down and now sits with lc rear wheel and XJ600 front in the XJ forks and yokes. Like an idiot , a while back i decided it was a good idea to cut off the rear of the main frame and the seat catch tabs so i could fit a tz single seat unit. This plan has been knocked on the head also.....if only i took the time to think things through instead of going at it like a bull in a china shop. Luckily the hoarder in me means all the tabs, tangs and bits of frame are still in my possession and can be re fitted.
Here is the unfortunate rear end with 'bits missing'....

Years ago after a major tank slapper ( which was very regular for some reason) the lock stop broke off. The back street garage i took it to to get mot'd decided a temp repair was needed and duly welded on an old bolt with chicken shit. This is going to need replacing with something more appropriate and also re locating to give a usable lock. Ignition switch fits yokes (unlike the lc clocks) however doesn't line up to enable the steering to be locked so this will also need sorting.
The lock stop......

This next pic has fzr 1000 / tzr 250 calipers loosely fitted. The bottom caliper mount lines up nicely unfortunately the top one does not. I may try some different calipers in the hope i can find something that will fit without the need for extra brackets to be used. Not sure if it is possible and if not i am not opposed to them i would just prefer not to have to use them.

Last one for now... i had Raask rearsets fitted from years ago which although i liked the positioning my knees are not so keen anymore. A very kind forum member gave me a set of cut hangers which are fitted. The pegs ,gear change etc from the raask's wont work in standard positioning on these hangers. I will probably get the kit needed to use them as they were intended but would want to change the pegs which i presume is possible? if not i may adapt to use the Raask sets but
with a little bit more forgiving positioning.
Anyhow this post feels a helluva lot longer than i intended it to be so i am going to leave it here for now. Hope i haven't bored you too much. I do have a few pics of some issues found with the motor so far etc but will save these for another post as this one is boring me now, i bet no one reads all the way down this far.
