I'm not very technically minded, but a mechanic who I respect has told me he thinks my LC gearbox is noisy especially in 6th gear.
How easy is it to get the parts to rebuild the gearbox (if a rebuild is needed) or to replace worn gears etc.
And where is the best place to get the parts from?

If you are splitting cases to examine gearbox you would then be looking at probably recon crankshaft and rebore etc no doubt depending on condition. I recently rebuilt a TDR 250 motor and one of the gears showed signs of wear. No longer available new however was able to obtain a nos part on Ebay from Greece! Check Fowlers website to see what parts of gearbox still available new. You either run the bike with fault with the chance of a gearbox failure (gulp-dangerous/expensive!) or strip engine to rectify sooner than later. Best of luck.

If you suspect a gearbox fault don't use the bike , if it locks up you are in trouble as pulling in the clutch won't make any difference . These engines are not difficult to work on and little needed re specialist tools, I recently rebuilt my Yamagamma donor engine and one pair of gears was close to breaking up.I have a good gear cluster set if needed.

Good old LC 6th gear worn out.
They were too thin, thatβs why they widened the PV.

π€£π€£π€£ probably.....but it's hard to tell through the years in my eyes.π And crap in your pants π Steve The first time was a bit hairy. I was going past a line of cars, got to about 90-95 and as I got to the last car she locked up. Luckily the road was damp so didn't snatch when I got the clutch dipped. So I kind of skidded / freewheeled past the last car then watched as all the cars cruised past the 'feckin idiot on a bike'.π

New bearings might be worth putting in. The output bearing behind the sprocket is a standard bearing (6305NR), so I just get a decent branded one and remove the ring.
