That looks like a great basis for a project. You are missing a grab rail and the centre stand lifting handle. Never seen a refelector on a mudguard either! Also never seen the Yamaha logo on the tank in black. What's your plan for it? As I see it a restoration would be straight forward and relatively cheap compared to a hybrid.
Whatever you decide good luck with it all and keep us posted.

It had the grab rail, lift handle, mirrors, new peg rubbers ,kick-start rubber in a box which the guy had bought for it . I have swapped seat foam seat cover, added repro indicators, front/rear indicator stalks just a little tidy up really oh and straightened the pipes they were sticking right out and looked crap.

It has a bracket for a side stand cut off switch aswell Alex I think they are slight differences to UK spec here and there 👍

Yep sounds like the German spec in that respect. Or Euro spec...still puzzled by the reflectors. Canada only?

Great basis for a project whichever way you decide to take it. I might be odd, but I quite like the white frame with that colour scheme. I do like a modded LC but it's the subtle changes that I prefer. I am in the process off getting bits together to build mine. Good luck with your build.

I like that as it is. Looks like someone has looked after it. You will need to decide what you want to achieve and what your budget is - they go hand in hand of course. If it were me, I would give the engine a refresh, and make sure all the service items like brakes, chain etc are good, and then just ride and enjoy it. You may be more than happy with it, if not, you have winter coming up to make plans and change things if necessary Good luck, it looks a nice bike Dusty

Good to see a proper Vernier in action. I still don't trust the dial gauge ones let alone digital!!
Great base for a lovely bike whichever direction you go.

Thanks flames its going to be an interesting one mate with the self porting. well I had it dynoed at 46.9 as it came to me hopefully it ends up more than that 🤞 possibly 47 😀😂

They are very healthy numbers for a standard ? LC. Book states 47 but I think it was only the magazine test riders bikes that got that high. Remember reading that yam worked the squish on the test bikes. I would like to have a go at tuning one, but I would be better off going straight to wedging the door open with them.....at least they would still have some value when I don't feck em up.😁

I think dyno might of been a bit optimistic to be fair but I will be taking it back to same one so it doesn't matter ill be able to see if I've made improvements. Although I will be making rather a few changes at the same time so it will be hard to see what changes have done what.

Certainly looks like you know what you are doing, but if you are planning to keep filters instead of airbox, make sure it is jetted to suit. I think 400 mj's are thought to be the smallest you should run with them.

Are curley wurleys the favorite form of currency on here? Not sure about that Alex haha. Funny you should say that flames look what landed at my door today 👍. Ive decided not to port my own barrels ive taken them to tony at a'js to let him work his magic. For the cost of buying the right tools and the risk of ruining them its not worth it. I'm planning on putting the barrels back on the engine as it is and not doing anything else at the moment resto wise anyways. I plan on fitting: new piston rings Air box 5mm reed spacer Ported barrels. Keep everything else as it is pipes/ignition etc And getting it back on the dyno. Ive got a couple of questions if anyone has any advise. The pistons that are currently fitted are ypvs ones, they have bigger holes in the piston are there any benefits of using these over the lc pistons? I see you can buy the lc specific pistons now with smaller holes and flat skirts would these be better/run different? Ive read the debates of weather or not to remove the tang so I'm not looking for advise on that thanks. If I reuse the ypvs pistons and re ring them ive looked and the lower ring is thicker than upper? There prox pistons and how do I know if the new rings will have a thick and a thin one? its making me lean towards a new piston kit because of this. Thanks Rob

Personally I've never noticed a difference between the pistons. I believe Ypvs ones were used because LC ones were hard to get hold of. Personally , given the choice I would go for LC ones, but that's because I don't like messing with the tang on the skirt.

Just been looking through your pics again ( can't get over how much difference the white frame makes ) and noticed the pipes are fitted to the outside of your hangers. They're usually fitted to the inside. Will give it a more 'sleaker' look from behind as well as they won't flare out so much.😉

Yes I did try to fit them behind the hanger but it would of meant even more cutting and re welding In the end this was the best fit 👍. I will get some more made up eventually in stainless. I am liking the white frame aswell bud I think it will stay. I'd done a previous build with a white frame and was real happy with that with white wheels also.

I remember that Gt for sale on ebay, in recent times. I quite liked that Why not try a set of Mutts or Kenny's pipes and a digital ignition upgrade before you start grinding out ports ? The pipes and ignition will boost any engine and are positive mods. A port job may wreck your barrels and cost more money. The good guys doing porting have years of experience doing it - no disrespect to you - and barrels aren't a cheap thing to replace or resleeve. Not sure there is much, or anything performance wise regards pistons Lc vs Pv. If you go with Pv, do the tangs, it takes minutes. Last couple of Lc engines I've done I got the specific Lc pistons as they are readily available. If you do a complete engine rebuild with genuine parts where possible, cosmetic refresh etc, you'll be in for £600 at least, and probably nearer a grand, so you'll want it right first time !! Dusty

Just re read your post and seen you are getting them ported by Tony - good move Yes the lower ring is a wider cross section than the upper. Prox were/are very good pistons. Speak to Paul at Pjme with regards to ordering rings. He knows them inside out. Dusty

Thanks for the advise dusty regarding pistons 👍. Yes I've been using tony for a few years now mainly his vapour blasting ive not had any porting done by him but he is a very knowledgeable/genuine guy. He is doing a midrange/tourqe port job and altering squish for me. He can also design a set of pipes for me so all good so far things are moving along. Regarding Gt yes it was up forsale a while back matey but had no takers I think its a bit too much of a mismatch 😄😉.
