Right guys, how do I get the stator wiring grommet out through the engine casing on my LC2 without damaging it or any of my mint engine paint work?
It's been there 36 years, never been removed before and doesn't seem to want to budge... suprise, suprise!!!
I know I could probably just yank it with a pair of long nose pliers but that's not how I work!
Any of you guys managed to get it out safely without causing any damage?

Its just a grommet ,i would use a screw driver from the stator side to loosen/ prise the grommet out then pull the wires through i cant see how any damage can happen you could cut it out and get a new one from Norbo

Spray some WD40 or the like around the seal area and twist it to break the seal then press out using something plastic, or a wooden lollipop stick.

Cheers Shytalk, I was thinking WD40 also, seems the way to go. Also I might give it a bit of the old hair dryer treatment to soften up the grommet a bit.
It's just that I'd seen earlier posts saying they were a right pain to remove!
And.....as I said, I don't want to damage it, chop it off or have to replace it as that means I'd have to take all the connectors off to fit a new grommet!😩

Bit of heat from a hairdryer or heat gun will make it more plyable too.

I just poke it through with a blunt screwdriver, not damaged one yet!

I assume you know they come out from the stator side?

I assume you know they come out from the stator side? ...and only once youve removed the plug.

I assume you know they come out from the stator side? ...and only once youve removed the plug. Yeah hi mak595, I do know that.......and jonw, what plug, if you mean, the plugs, then there's no need to do that. I have actually done it now, on both my ypvs's. Easy peasy, when you know how. I'll post later how I did it.👍 Oh, and both my bikes are complete..... not just a bare engine on the bench.

I thought you wanted to remove it to paint it, if youre just sliding it away from the case for painting then that would work, yet be fiddly. Seems like you painted the engine in the frame from what youve said too. Im wondering why you did not remove them but I guess you had your reasons.

No mate, I haven't done any painting at all, the bikes all original.
The reason I wanted to remove the grommet and obviously along with the stator was so I could try it on my other non starting LC2.
So I removed the rotor ( that's another story... been there for 35 years), the stator and the CDI from my all original, known good, 7k mls 85 RZ350 so I could use them on my 84 LC2 to try and get it started. I wanted to try the complete 85 setup so I wouldn't have any compatibility issues.
As I said my RZ350 is all original mint condition so that's why I was so worried about causing any damage to the engine paintwork while trying to get the stator grommet out of a fully built up bike. Luckily no problems in the end..... sorted it quite easily. May have made a mountain out of a mole hill but I'm a fussy old git.😂
