Hi, my LC / 31K YPVS hybrid will no longer start, I have previously had it running fine. having done load of checks I believe the “4CE-00” CDI unit has failed. Im considering a Ignitech or Zeeltronic, is there any preference? Norbo lists the Zeeltronic for £180 & Ignitech for £165. Muttsnuts list the Ignitech for £180. Do these all come with a basic pre installed map? Thanks in advance

Zeeltronic has the standard 31k map in it
Iggy is blank
Mutts will preprogram one for you
Depends how you are with programming 😁
Didn't think 4ce cdi tended to fail 🤔
You can just fit a 1ua cdi. Just will have the blue wire spare so no stand cut out switch
Also before you condemn your old cdi try connecting the blue cdi wire to earth to prove the circuit is ok
If your neutral switch/side stand switch is faulty it won't let it start
Also check low speed winding and pick up resistance as if knackered they will stop it too

You say that you don’t think the 4CE CDI’s tend to fail? from reading this post rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/7092/ypvs-cdi-convershonsI have checked all the outputs of the generator & CDI & the only thing I can find wrong is the CDI output voltage to the coil is about 10 to 20% of what it should be. I’d happily fit a 1UA CDI if I could find one! I have the blue wire connection to earth as I don’t have any of the side stand cutout system. Without the wire connected to earth I have no output to the coil at all!

You may also need a programming lead if you want to check or change any settings yourself. The Ignitech ones are a lot cheaper as just a USB-Serial cable you plug in your laptop, whereas the Zeel ones are a custom lead or handheld programmer.

Im in the same position & have to decide between the two units i have No CDI Or Powervalve controller to start with tho so im leaning towards the Zeeltronic PCD1-10VT iv also been told there FAR Easier to install than the other unit & when you have basic electricial knowledge Thats a big bonus

Full Zeel and Iggy are the same to fit
Zeel as said needs a special lead and software or a £60 programmer
Iggy just a standard cable and software you download for free
Its just the Iggy has more spare wires for other functions like air solenoids and other output/inputs
If pre programmed and supplied with bike specific wiring diagram then it's a piece of pish to do
From memory both are just:
12v 0v Pick up x2 Feed to coil Kill switch wire YPVS or 1 pulse tacho output 5 wires to servo
Probably forgot something but that is the basics
Hi and lo speed winding wires get connected all together and connected to frame earth
If you don't do this you can fry the windings as with no load on them the voltage goes way too high
Shorting them all to earth stops them making any power

Oh Zeel has a shift light output and quickshifter input wires
Iggy has the ability if you wish. Just program the input/inputs to suit

Thanks for the info Steve Good to know there basically the same to fit I was told the Zeel unit didn’t matter what stator you had ( F2 or 31K ) Also you didn’t need the CDi or power valve controller as the zeel had both built in Is that the case for the Iggy Cheers

Yes
Stator type irrelevant and no cdi/pv controller required

I was in a similar position a couple of months ago, i went for the Ignitech. i got it off DaveW (mutts nuts) since im putting a set of his pipes on the bike, it made sense to get a unit that Dave has downloaded the correct map for the pipes etc.....
Not wired it in yet as the bike is still being built up but looking at the 31k wiring instructions Dave supplied, it looks straight forward enough........
...........(famous last words !!!!)
