Just picked my barrels up this morning had a fresh rebore to 65mm with new pistons ect and a tidy up of the porting so they match,, rull race spec now so, my question is won't be a while few months or so before I build the engine,, so that in mind should I oil the bores or leave them dry as is not wanting them rust or something or will the oil soak into the bores over time? , any suggestions ππ

I always oil my bores. It will prevent rust. I also keep them in boiler cupboard so there's no damp as well.

They will need cleaned most likely
Take a bit of white kitchen towel and spray with wd40
If you wipe the bore or a port and there is a dirty mark on the towel there is residue on them
Clean them to within an inch of their lives then lightly oil

I oil em and wrap in bubble wrap or an old sheet. Then box em up. Never had a problem with smell. Just smear the bores, don't fill em up.π

Ah just the man Mr arrow,,, as theses barrels are a bit more than slightly ported willprobably be sending you a new oil pump from Mr norbo when I sort it for a 31k ypvs will it require modding and I'm not sure wot carbs Ile be running but prbs not standard, was the oil pump question I was clarifying,, as your the pump man no one better to ask π if that's OK I mean,,,

Hmmm , you will be a time with the files taking the edges off the ports before fitting them .So they will need a good soak and scrub in some warm soapy water before drying and oiling.

Think he means ports will need chamfering. I can't see from pics, but you don't want sharp edges on ports . Can cause rings to snag.

Ah I get you now cheers flames mate they are a bit sharp all my guy said was check the gap with the valves fitted against the piston so they don't catch the rings said about 1mm gap should be fine I'm presuming the valves don't go near the pistons unless your getting close to 65.5to max 66 mm but I'm at 65 so he's probs being carful

Sorry bud I don't know about the powervalves, I have a motor but haven't done anything with it yet. I guess they would need matching to ports.
All the windows in the cylinder will need to be chamfered so rings don't catch. Some places do this with a bore, some don't. I can't see from pics if yours have been done.im guessing not as this has been highlighted.

Valves will be fine at 65mm
Only usually a prob over 1.5 over
If the port edges are sharp buy a very small curved file and champfer the edge off
Easier if you snap it

Cheers flames, Steve,, can't really see from pics so had a quick look the inlet and exhaust are fine it's the little ones on the edges I think looking at them he's ported them and then bored them as the little ones are slightly sharp on the edges so as said ile file the edges of smooth another thing learnt today cheers guys ππππ

A really tiny chamfer not a great 3mm x 45 deg job.....think more βremoving sharp edgeβ than big chamfer....

And I'm presuming top and bottom of the ports, or all the way around as I'm guessing the sides won't matter?

Nice , as the other chaps have said the sharp edge needs to be taken off the ports it gives the rings an easier life.
