Hey guys, I need a new rear brake rotor and one new front for my 1983 RZ250. I noticed this full set for around $250 shipped.
Has anyone used these or similar generic Chinese discs? I realise they are not exactly the same as original (drilled rather than the original slotted). I'll have to change both fronts I guess as they won't match, unless I can find a good used one.
I agree with Howard as I have seen issues with cheap disks cracking and warping on forums, so I'd stick to the main players. Its not like those shown are mega bargains either. You might find cheaper on aliexpress lol But yeah... not for me either.
I always find it a shame that most (all?) of the aftermarket supply the same 5mm disk for the whole YPVS range when the later ones are thinner.
Not dissing Metalgear at all, but... (yeah I said it wasn't, but it made me think...) they dont proudly proclaim that they make the disks in Aus. Most every biz that does make things here says that they do if they do. This makes me wonder where the metalgear stuff is actually made? Not saying there is any reason to doubt the quality as they are nice disks, but... Anyway, I assume if you fit them that they are fine with the ADR etc.
Of course Metalgear isnt alone and people like EBC also make disks... dunno where tho.
A lot of stuff is made in China now, even by the big players. I have Brembos made eastern Europe and even see them opening factories in India etc. Its all good so long as the quality remains of course.
There are also a lot of used disks around as some of other models also fit our bikes. OEM is best etc...
Thanks guys Metalgear always struck me as overpriced for what they are, as they seem at least in the past to have been fairly generic. I’m enquiring about a cheap used set of fronts at the moment, trying to ascertain how worn they are though
