I don't disagree with you very often mate but the GPZ600 rewrote the rule book, it is the spawn of everything that happened in bikes until ewan boreman took the long waydown, its so different from the 550 its like someone switched a light on, its not often that any manufacturer gets it that right but mine was that good I had it for 12 years. Do zx6r b1h next, I can really ramble about those, I love Kawasakis, can't remember not having one.

Completely agree Andy that’s kind of what I meant most middleweights had been a bit mmmmmhhhhh, cb550, gs550 xj550 the gpz made sporty middleweights cool which lead to the gpz600 I remember the 600 and it was wtf.

Seem to recall these things cracked well over 120 on the radar back in the day ,always liked them, had a ZX550a unitrak for a bit back in the day surprisingly quick for what it was. Had a 650 kat for a bit handled well but kept breaking, crank eventually roasted its self was just a bad bike, mate had an xj650 shaft, shocking on fuel, best shaft GT750 127MPH 47MPG good ones would wheelie in 2nd gear Got a GPZ1100b2 up here to go with that GPZ550h .John.

Back in the day I had RD's, LC's and then I had a GPZ600 forever because I loved it, was always a bit pissed that I didn't have a GPZ550H1, so I bought one a couple of years ago, it was pretty tidy when I got it apart from the tank being nearly see through (I'm not kidding it was like tin foil) and it was pretty cheap, I got another tank from the states which was mint inside and mark cordwell painted it in firecracker red for me so paint is mint, I've done nothing since and once I've more or less emptied the garage I'll get on with it next. Andy I've got a Gpz 550h now.Really happy with it.

Just reading through this whole thread's making me want to go and watch some Earlystocks racing for some reason.

I thought I would add these here. This started life as a Father and Son project. By the end it was more of a Father project but its pretty much done. It's a GPZ550 that I built as an endurance race bike for a local vintage race series here. Its a 2 hour race and each rider is limited to a maximum of two 30 minute sessions. It started off life as a Frame, Engine and Body work that I got for $400. The complete front end is off a 1991 FZR600 with calipers from a 2006 750 Katana as the original 4 piston calipers are not legal. The rear wheel and brake is off a GS500. The exhaust is a Delkevic from a KZ650 which has the same pipe diameters and head gaskets as the 550 but it hangs down about an 1.5 inches lower on the GPZ. I think the 650 may have a longer stroke. I just cut an inch out of the middle and am using a can from Cone Engineering. It's running Pirelli Diablo's - 110 front and 140 rear This was the first time out on an and it seems to run well. Its a little lean but the carbs already had a Dynojet kit so I can just get the next size mains and pilot jets from Jets-R-Us and I'll probably have to raise the needle. Those TK carbs are not the best but they will have to do for a while.
