thanks chris, yea a good few bits and bobs done.
Im also working on the fuel tap atm. Im removing the vacuum function of the YPVS tap, converting it to On/Reserve/Off.
and then it should be ready for starting after some gearbox oil!

Fuel tap sorted! The YPVS fuel taps work on a vacuum system which over time created leaks there is a mod to remove the vacuum function and have the tap working as On, Reserve and Off. I asked the question here a while back and tacky1 posted a link to the rzrd forum rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/51228/rd350-vacuum-fuel-tap-modanyway I got the job finished (but not tested) last night. Disassembled the tap and filled some parts with JB Weld, made a gasket to replace the vacuum diaphragm. I used a traffic light system to relabel the dial indicator with some acrylic paint.

hey Chris, pi$$ed fuel out of what looked like every seal of the tap.
I ordered new seals from Fowlers and off ebay. Stupid me thought it would be ok to use the old seals.
Face palm and red face moments combined...

Today I finally decided to get this started ahead of the tank being ready. 6 Kicks and remembered to "choke" next kick and she fired up . . .reluctantly! few more kicks and she was running.
Its running "OK" on the right side but very sluggishly on the left. Removed the
plugs, both firing but the left plug was very wet.
Not sure about the whining sound, not sure it should be making that sound?
Ive got some oil leaking from the exhaust manifolds, I suspect overall its getting way too much fuel.
Anyway its alive anyway but not sure how healthy

Hi 2taol, If the epoxy doesn't work well, I used Bondic to stick broken side panel tabs back on. It works great and is super easy to use because it stays liquid until you shine the UV light on it. I also did the fuel tap repair and ended up spending £80 on a new one.

Hmmm, hopefully I wont be buying a new one. I do have a second one as a backup. I dont think the tap from the YPVS will work with the type of carbs I have.

That whining sound from the motor doesn't sound right ? Do you know the history of the engine ?

only thing I know of its history is it was previously in a Kart! I have it about 8 years and ive never had or heard it running.
I thinking i'll drain the gearbox oil and see if that gives a clue

have been giving this some thought and reflection and I've come to the realisation that I never changed the bearings on the gearbox shafts RED FACE MOMENT I have in my posession a full set of yamaha washers and bearings for the g.box. These arrived today ahead of the parts ordered for the fuel tap, all from Fowlers.

havent done anything on this since the last post. I have a big job ahead in stripping the engine and have been procrastinating. I received the parts for the fuel tap and i'll fit them tonight, that will get me back on track provided it all goes well...

well Chris the new parts will sort out my stupidity! Got the new seals fitted to the tap and it reinstalled along with a new pattern lock. Just need to give the tank a clean and polish for the short term before a new paint job. My tap mod worked out also, a quick twist to RES released a flow of fuel!

Today I dragged my self to the garage to work on the bike, I took the heads off and found that there was fuel pi$$ing out between the heads and barrels, particularly the right side. I definitely had the heads torqued down and there is a film of 2T oil on the pistons, some on the copper gaskets and a dribble down to the front fins. Im using those Vesrah gaskets, I read before that they can be $hite... Obviously it was sucking air and blowing fuel when running. I recon this wouldnt have been the cause of the whining so engine out becons. Ill have to look at the carbs too, see whats going on. Many head scratching moments lie ahead...

I also noticed oil on under the left side of the engine, I pulled the side cover and the neutral switch, i discovered 2T oil? Drained the gearbox oil and it looks fine, no green 2T oil/fuel.

Hi all, I got the engine out this evening and back on the bench. So disapointed in myself I broke a piston ring and snapped a tiny bolt on the rotor pickup holder. A question about the piston rings, per piston there are 2 different thicknesses, 1.1mm and 1.4mm. I can see a lot of dykes rings online and I need flat rings but will they be the same as the rings I have? I really dont want to have to buy pistons and rings....
