A lot of folks put 28mm carbs on their stock manifolds but can bigger carbs be fitted on there or do you really have to get bigger manifolds ?

I’ve physically fitted 34mm Mikuni on power valve rubbers onto a 350lc. So they will go on.

Wow that is interesting
Could you see how they fitted inside , as in the manifolds were loose ?

I did this back in the 80’s but am now running standard carbs. I just remember forcing them into the rubber inlet manifold. It sounds brutal but they did go in as advised by Stan Stephens at the time. I wasn’t running with air filters either. They obviously didn’t deform the manifolds as the standard carbs are still a snug fit. I’m assuming my memory isn’t playing tricks.

Real issue is that carbs Bigger than 28 mm PWKS... Foul the clutch linkages with their Float bowls. Some have fitted larger carbs and simply tilted them in the oen carb boots. And won races with that bodged setup... it clearly works, despite finger waglings. Other (usual) approach is to fit Pricey bespoke Billet intake manifolds

Just for clarity on my answers. It was a 4lo engine.

So the custom manifolds are to move the carbs away from the clutch linkage , as well as having larger diameter rubbers for bigger carbs

You can get larger manifolds that look like stock and they will except 35mm carbs, but you will need 6mm/10mm reed spacer to lift the carb over the clutch arm Jess

Interesting Jessy J :-)
Are they manifolds they make for the Banshee ?

Yes I ordered them from America a couple of years back.

I was going to use them with a std airbox that’s why I got them, but I didn’t in the end, when down the pod filter route (yamarilia no room for airbox)

before squeezing larger carbs onto stock rubbers, measure the inside lip of the rubbers, the part that the carb spigot bumps up against, that will tell you how big a carb you can fit, anything bigger will be a waste of time as it will effectively be restricting the flow and cause turbulence
As Jessy says, you can buy the larger rubbers, not cheap if memory serves me right though
