I have an FII and need to do the seals and paint the calipers.
Is it possible to get both pistons out at the same time or do you have to do one side at a time? Cheers

Yes, if you take out one brake pad on either side and pull lever until both pistons touching disc, topping up master cylinder as you go, then take out the other pad on one side push piston almost out, then take out other sides pad and use a screwdriver as resistance on the one that is almost out and push out the other, you can then pull both out once you take both calipers off, that's what I do.

Thanks Tony. The calipers are off the bike and I've used air to push both pistons out but just can't seem to get anything in to pull them the last bit.I'll have to have another look.

I always split the calipers.

I wouldn’t use air, you’ll end up with a piston flying across your workshop at a rapid rate of knots doing a lot of damage as it goes
There are a few tools that clamp into the back of the piston allowing you to twist it back and forth whilst pulling it out
Other people use a grease gun to push the piston out, it’s messy but a lot less dangerous than compressed air

Thanks for the replies After a lot of messing I found a relatively easy way to do it. The pistons where really tight and I couldn't pull them out so I clamped the piston on the Banjo side and popped the opposite side one out then split the caliper and layed some anti slip rubber mat across the "oil Ways"(it's nice and soft) I then reassembled the caliper this in effect sealed both halves from each other. Then I popped the other piston out using my compressor. I don't think they have been out in 30+ years so lots of careful cleaning now
