I run mine on castrol power 1, it's a modern oil from a good brand and easy to get as Halfords stock it

Zig, I think you're getting a bit mixed up here, if I read you correctly. Castrol is a brand. They do make some Castor based products. Power one is not Castor based. Castor is a vegetable oil, made by pressing Castor beans. It is not a brand and can be produced by many companies. I checked all my spellings here as the words Castor and Castrol are very similar. HTH.

Watch Tesco's for Castrol Power 1. They often purge their stocks. Last 6 bottles I bought were £2.50 each Dusty

I use the Exol fully synthetic oil. You can get 20 litres delivered for about £65 off eBay. Heads cleaned up with just a wipe after a few thousand miles of use.

Years ago I had an mtx 125 that had been run on Castrol r40. This is castor based I believe and made it smell like a speedway bike.i loved it and never had an issue with the oil itself although I have heard plenty that didn't like it. However while rebuilding after a circlip broke, I somehow managed to fit the carb from the other mtx 125 I was building by mistake, which was not run on r40. Even tho there was only residue in the carb it reacted and turned to jelly, starving the engine of oil, with the inevitable seizure . 1 newly rebored engine destroyed. This is why people say never mix them.

I think its only the pure mineral based 2-stroke oil that Castrol make is the only one thats not top spec. The other two mentioned are top spec.
