I've done quite a few, there are a lot that fit, if they're cheap enough, I'll buy one just to see, XJ900 fit, but the gears are plastic and need a little bit of filing to get the gear in. I'm also looking into getting some gears made up.

Just checked abroad and kph clocks are cheap and plentiful Iām looking at a set for Ā£200 that have only 15k but they come with at that price a seat, swing arm Variety of other bits sorely tempted.

Very true I did 5 31k kidney speedos using xj600 diversion clocks Ā£20 posted, they can't get rid of them Horizontal gear is 2mm shorter but if you are careful you can crimp the frame and they go in FZR don't fit. Vertical shaft is shorter š Steve

Fantastic write up, love it. Just hope the needle doesn't break like my N1 did, I've just ordered a TZR125 speedo to see it it will fit. Tacho needles are not the same size as I now know.

Super thread Steve. Great work mate.
If people have nice KM speedo dials then can they hold onto them? I ask as Aussie's often need better ones as our sun fades ours. Steve sent me a lovely KM dial for my 31k build to replace the grey faded original, made the bike! Cheers mate!

I marked the km one this time which annoyed me as it was mint Was while wrestling trying to get the needle stop out. They are usually not that difficult but even with heating it with a soldering iron it snapped š Just a line where the pliers rubbed, probably mostly unseen Got a nice tacho face too š Steve

May be worth adding a list of which clock's gears can be used as donors. Also which clock was modified and if it was a straight fit or needed modifying.

Brilliant thread Steve. Could have done with this a few weeks ago when my own clocks were getting a facelift. Still clocking up kms so might again be opening the speedo to change the gearing if I pick up a donor. Cheers John

Great info Steve š I'm going to be wanting to do this as I'm a couple of weeks away from MOT prior to registering with dvla. Firstly do you have any further information on clocks that have the same gears so I can get some bought? Secondly, what's people's thoughts on winding the digits back and is it possible whilst it's apart? Mine is reading 41097km which is 25500ish in mph. Personally I think this would be acceptable and not doing anything wrong as the speedo is then in miles. Thoughts Thanks Gee

Would these covers off ebay be OK or would you recommend something different from elsewhere? Thanks

They say 'decals' and the price is too cheap. the Kateannwells ones are 60 the set now I think and are whole 'faces' or 'dials'. those are what you want.

... but if you want the overlay type, get them off Norbo - cheaper and better than the ones you flagged up Gee. Look in his shop, from memory around Ā£15.

Thanks guys, I've just messaged Simon to see if he would be able to also fit the mph gears while it's apart if I use his 40 quid fitting service. Would have had a go but for the sake of 40 quid may as well get him to do it. Cheers Gee

Pulled apart a set of LC clocks today and there was a tacho rattle. I thought 'the bulb mask/reflector' has fallen out... I was only part right.
1 - The reflector had indeed dropped out and was floating about. 2 - There was a spare bulb stored in there too 3 - The mazak drive (where the cable screws on) was loose in the folded steel housing.
1 and 2 were easy fixes, but 3... hmm... Even with the dial and temp parts off you can only access about 2/3 of the edge where the mazak is folded over. Yes thats right, these are held in only by folded over alloy and that crimps this in place.
Luckily it hadnt got so bad that the drive had contacted the bell and it looks like the 'floaters' hadnt done any damage either. phew.
Ive tapped most of the alloy back down with a bit of messing about, but will need to flow some kind of glue into what is left of the gap to stop it moving in use and re-opening the gap.
sigh... old clocks...

Had a crack at the clocks today, didn't quite go to plan, the tzr125 clocks I bought didn't have the right shafts in them, too short. So I got them to pieces and fitted one of norbos overlays. It's all gone pretty well except whilst removing them I have broke the piece in the picture. Can anyone help me with what it is and what I need to do please? It looks like some kind of diode or capacitor or something and goes on the back of the speedo at the top. I'm still just getting it sorted for mot so I can get it registered so will probably have another go at the clocks another time when I've got everything together. Thanks Gee

It's the Speedo reed switch
It's what measures the distance for the self cancelling indicators
Unlucky on the gear shafts ā¹
I've had that with rd125 clocks. Both looked the same, one set fitted but the other were too short like yours
