Finally starting today to put the engine back together. Took a while to get all the parts. Starting by following Dusty’s excellent post with the plug and the most expensive washer I have ever bought.

Yep, that is an expensive washer ! I'm sure I listed a Honda alternative in one of the engine threads - less than £2 as opposed to 6 quid odd for the Yam item. Still a drop in the Ocean when you start adding it all up though Enjoy the process - building your own engine is a really satisfying thing to do. Dusty

You did list it and the alternative. I just read it after I ordered it When we buy oil here at the dealer they give you a crush washer for next to nothing to replace with every oil change. I’ll be keeping this one though lol

Great progress so far!
Building the engine and bike is enjoyable, the trick is to not panic when it comes to a grinding halt. every problem can be overcome because of the great community here.

Silly thing is, when I did the 400e build, I completely forgot my own advice, and ordered the Yam sump bolt washer !! I blame the excitement of an engine rebuild, and the long list of part numbers meant it slipped through the net !! Dusty

Painting the brake callipers, found out that ear plugs have more than one use. Also redid the ears using a gloss paint.

Looks great Gord - and good call on going with the black cylinders - the contrasting black really works!

Your doing a fantastic job. Are you enjoying it?
My refurb is on a "go slow/stopped" due to a slipped disc. Ouch. Keep safe.

I’m stopping and starting due to busy at work and hard to get parts. Hope your back is better soon and you can get back at yours.

Got the seat re-covered today and painted a bunch of parts. Taking advantage of some very warm weather before it’s too cold to work in the garage. A friend told me he cures painted parts in the stove at home and it doesn’t smell. I tried it for the first time....he was wrong!!! I had to open all the windows in the house.

I decided to restore the switch gear by cleaning them up internally and painting the housings. Decals and red thing from Norbo’s shop, they fit perfectly. Before After

Nice work. I did mine and they turned out nearly as good.....during the process it struck me that these simple practical devices with all these moving parts will never ever be made again and I love the fact we are still able to get our hands on these things and ........make them work.

I love doing switch gear too. The 31k type are a lot simpler inside than the 4L0 type, but just as satisfying.
