I've been lurking around the edges for a few years and have never been able to upload photos. Technology is not my thing. And the inspiration this forum provides, is just that, inspirational. So here goes, I live in Melbourne, Australia and have always had a thing for the RZ's So I purchased a unfinished project from across the border in NSW, Sydney It was a chopped ypvs frame to accept a R6 Yamaha tank and sub frame with rgv front and rear. Long motor was built with Athena cylinders and 4mm stroker out to 421cc. Also other bits of bling that sucked me in......

It sounded like a good idea. The shock mount had been modified to take the new sub frame. Bad Idea. Problem was you couldn't get the filters on the carbs without fouling the new shock mount. But the killer to this build was it was just plain uncomfortable. Seat was to low and even with the adjustable triump rear sets, pegs were too high. After alot of mucking around this hybrid was canned. So off came all the useable parts. Beringer calipers and master cylinder and clutch perch, rgv front and rear ends, engine, wicked motorsports chambers. And the search for a chassis started. Tracked down a donor bike, a RZ 250 that had a hard life. I thought what could go wrong? Started transferring bits over and decided to have tank and plastics painted and seat recovered. With the red Berringer brakes I was a left little choice for colour schemes. Red and white it was.

This frame as said, had a hard life. The repair on the stand mount looked as though the teenager who through it down the road thought to learn welding on it. After replacing a section of tube all looked to be ok. That was until the engine went in. Even with a offset sprocket, the chain was not going to play ball. Installing the rear guard over the rear tyre told the story. It was about an inch of centre. To persist? With frame straighteners are rare thing in Melbourne and the condition of the frame I sourced a really clean rz 250 frame. So again transferred the parts to the new doner frame. Chain alignment is perfect. Nice to have a win occasionally. So with the engine out, there were a few things I didn't like. I decided on Wicked Motorsport 34mm keihin carbs with oversize bowls, their coolhead with removable domes. The chambers had already been modified to suit the first incarnation, which now needed modifying to fit the stand RZ hanger points.

So as it stands, Motor is Athena cylinders, 4mm crank, Hinson clutch, oversize primaries gears, banshee 1st gear, arrow oil pump, 34mm keihens, wicked coolhead.
Suspension up front is vj22 with new springs and a nitron for the rear.
Beringer 6 spot calipers on the front with their radial master and rgv beringer on the rear mated to RZ master
The loom is lc,( no power valves) but I'm not sure of the fit to the ypvs frame. Also got a zeel for it when I get it running.
I'm thinking white wheels with a red frame and probably squeeze a belly pan on as well.

Good to see you posting here Rob! Veg, its about half n half (ex pats and Aussie born) i reckon on here. Ive known this project on and off over the years since its started as it was posted on the two strokes down under forum and while the R6 looked like a mostly complete project I know of Robs frustrations with what Luke did when he started it and he was 100% right to ditch the frame and go to an more OEM look. Tho if im honest I'd love to have a play with that old modded frame and see about working it over to finish it, but thats just the tinkerer in me i think plus Ive always liked the R6 look, flawed tho this incarnation might be once you get to details. I actually bought a tank, bodywork, suspension, wheels etc in the USA about 10 years back but was stuffed when I couldnt ship it all home (the seller then skipped it all! sigh) and that idea still niggles in my mind on those long covid lockdown nights when you cant sleep lol Oh and the bling on this one... oh yes! Rizoma, Beringer etc etc... its going to be a superb ride when done!

After a long hiatus, I'm back at it. I didn't realise it's been this long.
Wow, time flies.
Anyway, I've come back here because it's such a good resource, and my memory ain't that good. Just chasing a simple throttle cable route, because when you modify stuff, like 34mm kehiens, trying to get stuff to fit or needing to modify, alot of head scratching goes on.
So after going through the house and garage I've finally got everything back together in one place, and sorted out what's missing.
Because...
A while ago the 'minister for war and peace' nagged me enough to move on the pile of spares in the garage, that I thought I didn't need.
Luckily I think I've sourced the few items needed to finish the dry build.
Fingers crossed.

Good to see you posting Rob. Have you sorted that rear mudguard we spoke about?

Digging through various boxes, I found a tail tidy and the cut down mudguard. Also attached are a coupled of Rizoma led blinkers.
I quite like the look, but I might need a sympathetic inspector...
If you get might drift.

Ahha! perfect.
Yes I remember the Rizomas.
I reckon LED inds might be ok, its not like its something structural, but does depend on the person doing the testing in Vic.
