My older brother was a courier in London and had a CX500, he came down to Wales and tried to race me round our local damp site, we called it damp site as that's were all the girls "come" to stay on caravan site, anyway I was riding a Honda C70 and he could not keep up, all small straights with 90 degree corners, he was shocked by that, though I am an idiot and prepared to admit it. On a c70 in the woods managed to stay with a mate on his ts100 Amazing bikes those little Honda cubs, you just would not expect them to handle like they do in the hands of a nut job, wheelie well too, hold down the gear lever, rev it up and away you go.

Yes, was revving up at a junction and a mate banged it into gear next to me. We had some laughs like going 5 up on a a50 , of course we fell off.

Those were the days mate and pulling the front brake when you pass them, how did we get to this age I wonder sometimes.

Those were the days mate They certainly were, when I was 16 there were sometimes 30 odd of us if a mate brought a mate along etc. We weren’t assholes but no one messed with us either. We would go up to London as a mate with a fizzy lived there and on Strood bridge Medway a car cut him up at a red light, he rolled back, did a mini wheels placing his front tyre on his boot lid and pumped it up and down on the forks, the blokes face was a picture. On the A2 we would sit in the slipstream of lorries for an easy time and warmth, the fizzy rider would siphon petrol out his mums car ( no oil ) and when it seized up would pee on the barrel and carry on, they were indestructible.

I had a mate that kept knocking my car out of gear when I was driving along, sadly no longer with us.

One of the funniest was on my rd200 with a bunch of mates, we came across a car load of lads giving hassle to 2 blokes on a gt250 and gt380, then drove off when we appeared. I said you not going to let them get away with that are you. They didn’t , I did a u turn and ran over ones foot then thrashed off after them. Was nothing physical but they were shitting themselves when we caught them up. There was a long slightly uphill bit that had humps, the 200 literally flew up there with just the back wheel occasionally on the ground.

ACAB All cars are bollocks. I only got one when I started having kids, from quite young. Mates who stayed bachelors and good jobs had the money to race but everyone had to have a TZ or you were nowhere, was certainly a steep learning curve when it came to preparing them. Would sleep in freezing cold commer vans which would break down when we weren’t van racing. Racers wouldn’t put up with it now.

It was like the cresta run, No shit!! Ice piled all the way round the track.. but no ice on it. Clerk of the course Pete Hillaby gave everyone a talking to "No Barry Sheene antics"....... Yeah... right....... One geezer fell off and stread chunks of ice everywhere! And the bell end who was with us tried to araldite his waterpump impeller together as he'd forgotten about antifreeze... Commer van?? How fookin old are you hoist!!

Supposed to constantly drain using just water

Back in the day anti freeze was ok for racing use, a sensible ruling on its ban today... (Wonder if the sidecars still regularly spray oil all over the track... )My old transit had air conditioning... under the passengers feet..ie rotted out floor. But did have the luxury of an air bed. Great bus.. loved it. And probably the best use of space in a van I've ever had, had merc, Peugeot, Vauxhall since, but none as good design wise. Was last in a commer in 1970....
