The wife who only previously knew MotoGP is a convert. I think my personal favourite circuit that produced some of the best races was Suzuka, I know about the safety reasons for dropping it from the calendar but it’s a shame it’s only the 8hr held there now. Shame also about Hockenheim being left to ruin. There were so many great 500 riders that get overlooked, Randy Mamola was the eternal bridesmaid and Daryl Beattie was one of the few to give Doohan some pressure.

There were still a few 500s in 2002, outclassed but hanging on, but then half the size and did they even have quickshifters?

Remember Barros giving the 4 strokes a battle in the dying races for the 2 strokes, was willing him on to win, but alas he faded. West sponsored NSR.

Kato was 2nd at Jerez in 2002, will take a while for more info. There is a lot out there on google on subjects galore that aren’t even accurate, if it’s not accurate it might as well not be out there.

Was tragic that Kato never got to realise his massive potential.

Programme only mentions 7 4 stroke machines so far.

The great Gary McCoy on a 2 stroke. Add John Hopkins as his team mate.

Didn't think much of him when he was on the smaller bikes, and when announced he was moving to the 500's, I thought "that's not gonna work " he certainly proved me and I guess a lot of people wrong on that point.

Didn't think much of him when he was on the smaller bikes, and when announced he was moving to the 500's, I thought "that's not gonna work " he certainly proved me and I guess a lot of people wrong on that point. Wasn’t he like Jack Miller and skipped the middle class? Thought Gary had a win or two in the 125s. Some riders had good teams but through either bad luck or over riding and never stayed the course. Some riders had the edge with the best bikes, I suppose the saying the cream rises to the top is true. Was never a fan of Doohan but got to say if he had not had that early career injury he would have added 2 more titles. Foggy said he would have kicked his arse but preferred to dominate in wsb but to be fair none of them cruise to the front. Shame J Rea didn’t move over. MotoGP have got a grid full of champions but only a few winners, the rules tighten up the whole field but rules and restrictions hamper development. I know it’s in the past but Steve Hislop lapping quicker than VR at donnington, perhaps it’s the rider and the circuit there is only so much usable power, then there’s the tyre thing. MotoGP ought to outclass the superbikes by more. There are no Americans or Japanese at the front. Think it’s a bit like miss world, they are not the tops but the ones who are there. I love most racing but the real roads is just that, Real. It is what we have and will never know what could have been in MotoGP. Why not a shout out for the riders who go well in a range of disciplines, like Loris Baz .

Unfortunately can't stand Baz, not after he refused to help his teammate Tom Sykes winning the world championship, Baz was nowhere in the table, Tom was fighting to win against Biaggi. Petulant Loris refused to move over ....now I know championships are not one on one race, and if Sykes was quicker he should of passed him ..... but really annoyed me that day.

You’re right, remember now, probably already some animosity there or the team had pissed him off. Tom being was it half a point short!? Or was that another year? Something similar with being baulked happened with Guintoli also I think, though he did win his.
