Not the normal question I hope, but...
Like to insure my daughters bike,
she's just moved out, bike 'lives' here as she has no garage/shed
she's owner on logbook, CBT expired, but has license.
I want to use it too occasionally, can't insure myself as I don't own it.
Anyone else have this sort of situation with sons etc?

My insurance policy allows me to ride bikes I don’t own as long as they are insured by the owner. That’s how I was able to ride my sons bike. Not sure about the cbt bit as he needed it to be current for his insurance. You probably know all this already. Could you not add it to your policy?
Just read you don’t own it. Sorry.

Just checked my policies. I’ve insured my sons old bike that he owns on my insurance policy with Peter James. So it can be done.

Thanks, was thinking of getting an online quote. I tried adding to my policy but got asked 'who owns bike' Could get her to insure and add me, but she needs a pass certificate or another CBT course (closed unless necessary). could change keeper I suppose, but again, it' not mine to do that.

I thought that owner and person with name on log book (registered keeper) can be different? If that's the case, no reason you cant insure it yourself?

You don’t need to own a vehicle to insure it. You could always be a Named Driver on her policy.

Steve is right registered keeper can be different to the owner. So it can be registered in her name but owned by you.

Thanks, Whats the difference between owner and registered keeper? I bought it, shes on the logbook Carole Nash wanted to know if it was registered in my name. Yes, easiest option would be added driver but as mentioned her CBT expired, so no insurance without certificate pass number I don't think.

The owner is the person who in Law the item belongs to I.e. who’s name is on the bill of sale. The Keeper is the name of the person on the V5. This is why in Law the V5 is not proof of ownership.
