Struggling to find anything that looks like ' leftovers' on this build......do you plan to do a ' load of ol' scrap' build in the future? Perhaps we might find something that looks 2nd hand even if it's only been used once.😁 I know, I must apologise I went too far trying the newly plated brake pedal 🤣🤣🤣 Steve

This is an awesome build regardless of how you came about the part's. Certainly shows mere mortals like myself , the standards to which they should be built.👍

Prepped the tie bars for fitting Have you drilled and tapped the towel? It's the new finish on the engine Thought beige Terry towelling would look good 😂 Steve

What is it with switchgear
Took the 4 half that were still in original paint (they weren't even that bad) in a tub of Methyl Chloride for 4 hours
Takes the first one out, it's all bubbled and the paint falls off
The next 3, not the slightest bit soft 😡
Now gave up on the DCM and filled a jar with some industrial paint stripper and left them in it in disgust 😤

Look good, with the proviso that I always think the decals for these are like they were printed in BOLD when they shouldnt have been. Ahh well, gotta use what we got and make it look nice.

This is true but NOS ones have dried up I did find a cheap NOS RH one last week and then found a NOS LH from a different model that I could have robbed the cases off but that would have been £150 and not in the spirit of this "leftovers" build I think I'm finally winning the battle of keeping buying stuff lol In saying that I've just bought a 31k tank, an LC tacho and a kidney clock top case in the last week 😭 In fairness the clock bits are to help make up sets with all the spares I have and my excuse for the tank was "when will I ever find another really good one" Anyway, must go and see what's new on ebay 😂 Steve

Im totally with you Steve. I bought nos switches for my 47x after I had refurbed a set, so the refurbed ones will go on my F2... like you ive spent waaay too much on parts over the years and there comes a time when you have to use stuff up

Few more little little bits done Fitted a new stator wiring grommet. Would have been rude not to considering the wiring was full of taped up dry twist joints Soldered the joints, heat shrink tubing fitted then retaped with seld amalgamating tape then fitted Stuck new plugs in Then fitted the coil along with new plug caps Then fitted a pair of genuine pv cables Also measured the chain run and worked out I need a 9mm offset front sprocket so I'll order that Steve

I'd been toying with buying new plastic engine covers but given the cheapest clutch disc is £40, the oil pump cover is £67 and the stator/sprocket cover is £99 it's not in the spirit of the build to buy all 3 so I'll see what I can do I had a Yam disc that had no rash but had a very sticky reflective sticker on it which I eventually got off by soaking in cellulose thinners then polished with Autosol and some polish. Think it's perfectly usable now so I won't paint it as any imperfections are outweighed by the risk of reactions if I apply paint The best oil pump cover I had wasn't bad. Just a little scuff on the round section as usual and a couple of other scratches Degreased, 1k filler, sanded then wiped with acetone ready for painting I'm still undecided on the stator case. No matter how good you get the paint it doesn't look as good as a new one 🤔 Steve

That clutch case disc can't be bad, that's the reflection of my other bike in it 🤣

Oil pump cover done 😁 As for the engine case... ... f*ck it, I've bought a NOS one 🤣 Spent an hour cleaning and trying to polish 2 unpainted ones I had but they don't look good enough when beside the newly painted engine Steve

That's what I originally thought too then I found a set that didn't fit that theory Can't remember if it was late with the hole or early solid but made me think "that theory is f*cked" 😆 Maybe their stock rotation wasn't good lol Steve

No doubt I will find out soon. Great thread by the way.

Carbs cleaned to within an inch of their lives, new fuel valves fitted and on the bike now complete with cable and tubing The rubber seals at the cable elbow were split so I've used a new pair of aircooled rubbers which cover rusty elbows 😁 Steve

Next was the fuel tap In the spirit of the "leftovers" I decided to refurb the tap with a Tourmax kit rather than spending £85 for a new tap Had a couple of old taps so built 1 good one out the 2 Vacuum side of the tap working fine now and turns freely Some say they still don't work and still pass fuel but I've always found as long as meticulously clean and nothing corroded they work fine Did find the main reason most don't stop the fuel when the engine isn't running, check the pitting on the rear of the tap valve. This allows fuel to flow past the prime position hole so bypasses the vacuum diaphram Steve
