Not done much on it yet but thought I'd start the build thread anyway The TR is delayed as without the sale of my last build I can't fund the engine work The basis of this one is a matching lc2 frame/cases that I got off Dejan a couple of years ago that I was going to build the spoked bike onto but then I picked up a UK F1 frame cases so used that set first This one is going to be a budget build as in I'm going to spend as little as possible on it most due to having most of the parts already so hopefully not too much more to fork out on Best get the e fine sorted first so sent engine bits away for vapour blasting by Andy marsbar I already had the top case done Steve

What paint do you use Steve, I've been trying out painting myself now I've moved away from my usual guy but I find it seems to chip off too easy, I ve tried different primers etc but doesn't seem to help.

Turns out the frame was from the original ypvs I bought after I passed my test in 1989 so I bought it and started from there The last evolution of it is here: rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/15507/385-ypvs-2014-modsSteve

I bet you canβt bring yourself to build to a small budget ππ I didn't say it was a small budget π I said I was limiting how much I was spending from now to build it. What I will say is there will not be blingy bolts on this one and not everything will be either new or refurbed to within an inch of its like I'll highlight anything other than nuts/bolts etc that I have to buy The rest is out the rafters π€£ Its not going to be easy π

Phil On Dusty's recommendation I've moved to Hycote engine enamel Only available in gloss black If you don't want a high sheen once you have painted the part let it go tacky for 30 mins or so then spray lightly from a distance to mist a light coat on and knock the sheen off Steve

Few more pics of what's being used and what's done so far Using Fazer 600 forks again as I'd ended up with 3 sets. Lowers have some blemishes but as I said this ain't a mint over restored build so they are fine. I do have a nice set of cnc preload adjusters I'll add. Frame already powdercoated. Lockstop tab was extended to suit the Fazer bottom yoke which had the stem shortened 20mm to fit and also a slot cut in the stem so both the ignition steering lock and the euro headstock lock will work Steve

Front wheel is Fazer 600 with a good used set of discs that were vapoured to clean them up and centres painted It will run an RD 400 Speedo drive instead of the Fazer's electronic drive so an LC2 or N clocks can be used. Got both but undecided whether to build naked or bikini faired. Rear wheel is early XJR400 so uses a 17mm spindle instead of the later 20mm They are powdered in Titanium as I liked it so much on the rzr250 build New pair of Bridgestones 1n 110/70 17 and 140/70 17 fitted and a new rear disc. Swingarm is in the frame. It's an FZR (can't remember which model) which only needed narrowed 5mm each side and the end diameters reduced to accommodate the end caps then an F2 swing arm pivot bush It will use a refurbed standard H link and a pair of tie bars to the bottom pivot on the swinger Swing arm is 17mm rear spindle hence the early XJR wheel I have a new YSS rear shock for it so once I get some room after I've built the engine I'll get it up on its wheels Steve

Would you measure the length of the fazer forks sometime please, I'm guessing they are 41mm diameter. I am using fzr400 forks in mine but they are about 50mm too long & a bit pitted just thinking fazer ones could be an option.
Thanks Trevor

Steve I am in awe of how youβve managed to blag all these bits without the wife knowing about them. Looking forward to seeing this and are you going for a bear beating speed build? Shame about the TR, can you not get the chassis built in readiness? Or is that the next plan? Iβm still watching the news matey π

I do love a leftovers build! LB (on this forum) sorted me a deal on a spare F2 frame the other month and Ive been through my boxes wondering what I'd need to make a bike from it. Seems it'd be a hell of a bitsa, but it'd be a fun bike when done. we'll see lol
Anyway, enjoying your work Steve as ever mate!

Shame about the TR, can you not get the chassis built in readiness? Or is that the next plan? Iβm still watching the news matey π Don't even joke about me getting all those parts π€ A lot of them were bought as far back as when I was doing the LC hybrid π€« That's how long this has been going on and why I can't swing a cat. At one point I was rebuilding the Jap 250 while all the parts for the spoked hybrid, the leftovers hybrid, the TR kit, the donor kettle and any spares I have were strewn between the garage and 2 sheds Never mind the other 31k frame, wheels, bodywork and scabby exhausts I seem to have built up Its a miracle I'm still alive with what I've spent π€£ As for the TR it will slowly get to a rolling chassis. I have the frame, swinger, forks, wheels, tyres, brakes, yokes and rear shocks now it with the lockdown I can't get the tyres fitted. Don't even know if my engineering guy is working to make wheel spacers and machine down the yoke stem. I will need rear wheel spacers for the leftovers bike too Speedwise it won't be a "Yogi" speed build. Just seems quick at the moment as i had been doing bits of this in the background while doing the LC and the RZ builds so all the welding, machining and powder coating were done Also got an LC engine to build for a mate and still don't have my hands on the latest ypvs engine I bought as waiting on a mate dropping it off when he is in the area Bloody Covid π‘ Steve

Been grabbing time here and there on the engine
Found a strange thing on the gearbox I was going to use
The gears have the usual polished edges where the gears mesh but just in front of that there is what looks like pitting on 3 of the gears
No sign of corrosion, never seen it before π€
Luckily had another bottom end and those gear shafts look fine
Crank is from a stupid low mile motor (thanks Johnny C). History confirmed by the cylinders I have which was from the same engine and being perfect standard bore with the original pistons
Had to get the lower case repaired as the side case mount below the sprocket was broken off so got a donor piece welded in. Also replaced the gear shaft bush as despite it having no wear it had been heated from the welding and didn't know if the lining would be affected
Just need to fit the clutch bearing and tacho drive in the top case and it's ready to close up.
Steve
Tapatalk playing up, I'll try a pic later

Top case fitted and nipped up Got a 94 primary on the way so cheers guys. Waiting on the clutch arm hold down bracket as I only ordered it 2 days ago when I realised I never had one. How can I have 2 spare arms but no brackets π Also got notification Fowlers that an old order shortage has been despatched so that should be the dished washer for the primary gear and a few other odds and sods. I said it was a leftovers build so no bling bolts, used the case joining bolts that came out the 3hm1 engine that I had replated Steve
